Title: Sandy Denny Under Review DVD
Post by: Jules Gray on December 10, 2015, 08:18:07 PM
A Twitter pal sent me a DVD, Sandy Denny Under Review, this week.  It's one of those independent releases wherein an artist's career and music catalogue is discussed by various talking heads.  In truth, I tend to avoid these sort of things because they tend to resemble cheap money-spinners, but this one looked interesting, not least because of the quality of the interviewees.  Swarb, DM, Gerry Conway, Martin Carthy, and John Renbourn all make appearances, alongside the well chosen music critics.  And it even includes the better known footage of Fotheringay and Sandy live at the BBC, as well as some shaky black & white bootleg-quality footage of Fairport live in '74 (courtesy of Peggy).  I was really surprised by how good it is.  Recommended for Sandy fans.

I have had this for a few years and as you say it's value comes from the great selection of interviewees. No fancy packaging or booklets etc just an interesting insight.

I saw this about two years ago, thought it was common knowledge:

Discussed on release, because it only uses (long) snippets of Sandy performing, no rights were paid to Sandy's estate for the use of her music etc.
