Title: Excalibur returning Post by: jonmuse on March 03, 2016, 02:23:00 PM One of my favorite FC side projects, Excalibur seems to have come back to life with some German dates posted on facebook. Anyone know if the fairports will be involved and if another CD is in the works?

But booked our cards for Freiburg anyway. Title: Re: Excalibur returning Post by: Ancient Muse (Andy) on March 06, 2016, 11:59:40 AM Has this ever been staged in the UK? I have heard a bit about it over the years and loved the taster we had at Cropredy a few years ago, but I feel as though I've missed out on something I might have really enjoyed. Not terribly keen on travelling to Germany for it.
Title: Re: Excalibur returning Post by: Chris on March 06, 2016, 01:35:23 PM They don't feel that enough tickets would sell in the barns of venues needed to stage it to make it worthwhile

Title: Re: Excalibur returning Post by: Bridgwit (Bridget) on March 06, 2016, 09:36:59 PM I'd go to see it. I enjoyed most of what we had at Cropredy a few years ago :)

I did travel to Germany for it a few years ago and enjoyed it but for all the wrong reasons and mostly because it was performed in the grounds of a castle and there was plenty of good German beer. The show itself is pretty preposterous. I like some of the music but imho it works better without the visuals and, with no disrespect intended to Johnny Logan, it does miss the likes of Justin Hayward and Roger Hodgson from the studio recordings. The DVD of the original concert is perfectly fine because it was performed straight, in a concert format. The touring show is most definitely a "show" with suits of armour and swordfights and rings of fire and horses and wizards and God knows what. It is not about the music. It is entirely about the spectacle and is over the top in a sort of Eurovision Song Contest way. It is very funny on the thick end of a quantity of Bavarian lager though.
