Title: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: GubGub (Al) on February 27, 2017, 05:46:24 PM Your nominations here.
Might be nice to include some reasoning on this one. Compilations allowed. Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: Poor Will (Bill) on February 27, 2017, 06:20:22 PM What We Did On Our Holidays
Iconic! Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: Jules Gray on February 27, 2017, 06:24:33 PM Unhalfbricking because it's such an interesting photograph.

Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: Andy on February 27, 2017, 07:01:28 PM Bonny Bunch of Roses
'cos I like it. Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: Will S on February 27, 2017, 08:15:57 PM Unhalfbricking, because of the daring way in which they had neither the band name nor album title on the cover

Honourable mention for the lovely sleeve of the Chronicles compilation. Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: ColinB on February 27, 2017, 08:30:39 PM I'd probably go for Full House partly because I just like the design but also because of RT's sleeve notes on the back.
For a more recent release I do like By Popular Request with the 45 years\ 45 single idea. And it's a good photo of Peggy and Chris. Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: Barry on February 27, 2017, 09:13:32 PM Rising For The Moon

Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: Brendan on February 27, 2017, 11:59:04 PM Gottle O' Geer .... I don't mind some of what is on the vinyl either

Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: Bridgwit (Bridget) on February 28, 2017, 12:00:02 PM Unhalfbricking definitely!
Although I quite like Over the Next Hill... Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: Shankly (Peter) on February 28, 2017, 02:22:43 PM Yes, Unhalfbricking. I love the atmosphere the sleeve portrays with the band half hidden in Sandy's parents' garden. Whilst looking again at the cover, I came across a picture of the same scene taken recently.

Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: Adam on February 28, 2017, 06:38:54 PM Full House, for the sleevenotes.

Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: GubGub (Al) on March 01, 2017, 10:34:46 AM Not sure if this counts but .... History Of. It does. Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: hendo (Dave) on March 01, 2017, 10:35:33 AM Not sure if this counts but .... History Of. Morning Bill. Pete Frame family tree and a 12 page booklet, what more do you want???? Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: Field 7 is Heaven (Trev) on March 01, 2017, 08:05:15 PM For me I like "Sense of Occasion's cover".
It reminds me of a Renoir painting. Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: davidmjs on March 01, 2017, 08:09:21 PM I'll go with The History of...My introduction.
Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: Greg on March 02, 2017, 08:33:13 AM May seem an obvious one (although I don't think it's been mentioned yet) but I'd have to say Liege and Lief. Especially with the little 'folklore' notes added etc.
Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: mickf on March 02, 2017, 10:18:26 AM I'll go with The History of...My introduction. That is a really good sleeve, with the Pete Frame family tree - also it was interesting to see how many changes there had already been by the time it was released (which, I think, was 1972?) Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: David W on March 02, 2017, 01:50:19 PM For me I like "Sense of Occasion's cover". It reminds me of a Renoir painting. Was that when Renoir was in his "not being able to paint" period. Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: GubGub (Al) on March 02, 2017, 04:27:27 PM For me I like "Sense of Occasion's cover". It reminds me of a Renoir painting. Was that when Renoir was in his "not being able to paint" period. ;D ;D ;D Post of the year! I so wanted to say something similar but was not brave enough. Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: Simon Withers on March 02, 2017, 05:38:39 PM Graphically I like ‘The bonny Bunch of Roses’ LP sleeve…
Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: Kathryn on March 02, 2017, 05:44:04 PM I was going to go for L and L but think I'll have to go for History Of...
Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: Jules Gray on March 02, 2017, 05:53:16 PM It has to be said that Fairport album covers over the years haven't been the most artistic. And post-Island they have been particularly shoddy. The only one that stand as as being particularly strong for me are:
Unhalfbricking Full House History Of... Liege & Lief Gottle O' Geer On a good day I might add The Bonny Bunch Of Roses. After that....hmmm. Jules Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: Alan2 on March 03, 2017, 03:31:15 PM The inner of Full House (old gatefold) has a nice picture, rather like old pics in gatefolds by Traffic and Mott the Hoople, so I like it.
There are some Fpt sleeves I've never even looked at, but Unhalfbricking is a good one. The rear picture makes them look like a family sitting down to eat. Title: Re: Fairport @ 50 Poll - Favourite Sleeve Post by: Jules Gray on March 03, 2017, 03:59:26 PM The rear picture makes them look like a family sitting down to eat. Back in those days they'd have been glad of the opportunity! I believe that the kitchen photo was taken the same day at the same location and that Sandy's mum did the cooking. Jules |
