Title: The Carey Hancock Toast. Post by: frogcrutches on July 12, 2018, 12:30:03 AM As many of you know, since the sad loss of Carey Hancock (Ces) who was one of the first members of this board, we have held a Toast at Cropredy on Saturday night at the bar. Ces was a huge fan of Fairport, and especially, Swarb.
This year we will be gathering at about 7:30pm, just as Afro Celt Sound System are due to finish. Ces was also a supporter of The Teenage Cancer Trust, and every year we collect money for the charity during The Toast, and over the years we have raised thousands of pounds. As well as Carey, many of us have lost loved ones, and this is a time to raise a glass to them. It doesn't matter if you are a new member of the board or a long-suffering older member, everyone is welcome. Shot glasses (plastic) are provided, and also people bring along their own 'interesting concoctions' for everyone's delight! These have included: Marmite vodka, absinthe, garlic/chilli vodka etc. Again, this is an open invitation for anyone who wants to join in - bringing a bottle of 'something nasty' is optional. ;) The Toast has become part of Cropredy for many of us, and this will be the fourteenth year of it. Many members of the board have carried out the duties of proposing The Toast, and this year that duty will be performed by Andy Leslie. Title: Re: The Carey Hancock Toast. Post by: Field 7 is Heaven (Trev) on July 12, 2018, 08:33:51 AM Following on from the accidentally pleasant "Green Stuff" and the encouragingly unpleasant "Brown Stuff" this years effort "The Red Stuff" is maturing nicely.
I have every confidence that it will cause grimacing a plenty. Title: Re: The Carey Hancock Toast. Just to say. Please everybody, if you post here make it clear that this is an everybody welcome event. Yes it goes back a long way to Ces and Swarb, but the toast is 'Absent friends'. Bring your own memories, drink the worst and put ££$ in the fez. A few reminders: If you have brewed your own 'cocktail' you must drink a draft at Saturday lunchtime at the bar. If you are still alive later, you can serve it to the mob. The is a serious fine for anybody who asks for more of any one brew. So long as the blindness is only temporary, that's fine. The Frog is allowed that avatar because frankly the alternative isn't great. Title: Re: The Carey Hancock Toast. Postscript Damn seem to have made a little too much. Will just have to try an early tasting to meet Yobb’s so stringent rules... Title: Re: The Carey Hancock Toast. Title: Re: The Carey Hancock Toast. Post by: Jim on July 28, 2018, 09:50:34 AM I will not, as threatened last year, be in attendance.
I'm taking at least one year off and I'm not a bit bothered, but the CH toast is the one thing I will miss, well that and your lovely selves. So remember to drink irresponsibly and bung a few quid in daughter of Yabb',s hat. Bacon vodka is lovely, drink it without fear. Title: Re: The Carey Hancock Toast. Post by: PaulT on July 28, 2018, 12:09:00 PM Aye, and I'll be in my garden ready for 8pm - regardless of weather (but must remember to lock away my RT CDs!) - with a plastic glass of blueberry & cranberry vodka to hand, remembering the good people we've lost.
Title: Re: The Carey Hancock Toast. Post by: Amethyst (Jenny) on July 28, 2018, 01:40:48 PM Who will bring the shot glasses? I will... now in possession of 120 little coloured plastic glasses... Will this be enough? Please re-use them to save plastic waste... I couldn’t find paper ones. Title: Re: The Carey Hancock Toast. Post by: Delfini (Diane) on July 28, 2018, 02:40:25 PM Pity I missed this when internet was off. I’ve got at least 50, but I suspect that you have it covered now.

(Can’t seem to post pic but home brew is a delightful greyish colour...) Title: Re: The Carey Hancock Toast. What Lucy means is that the home brew dissolved the glass bottle it was in and is going to need a team of men in bio-hazard suits to render it safe. Still not as bad as Pug's creation. Post by: PaulT on August 11, 2018, 03:41:37 PM Just got home from playing with the uke group at a local fayre. My little bass amp was miked into the PA... I bet I could be heard across Gloucester! Now I really could do with a stiff drink, but I shall refrain until the appointed hour.
I look forward to viewing numerous photographs of libations and reactions. This year, I'll have in my thoughts my mum in law Joan and triathlon mate Rich... Title: Re: The Carey Hancock Toast. Post by: Shane (Skirky) on August 11, 2018, 07:31:14 PM Cheers! [;-)

The money has been counted and desipte the torrential rain (and having to dry the cash out!) we raised £180 this year. If there is anyone who didn't manage to make it to the toast and would like to donate we now have a JustGiving page - https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/talkawhile-18 I will make the group donation shortly. DoY Title: Re: The Carey Hancock Toast. Post by: Pugwash on August 13, 2018, 02:33:01 PM There were two genuinely awful drinks this year Fisherman’s Friends vodka by Dad Volt and, (there was some debate on whether it was bison or baffalo widdle) by that Frog. I don’t care to chose the most awful.
Most, while being ghastly to some degree, were just about quaffable in a field in Oxfordshire in the pouring rain. Heart warming. As usual I didn’t suffer any ill effects. Well done one and all! Any photos yet? Title: Re: The Carey Hancock Toast. Post by: Delfini (Diane) on August 13, 2018, 02:42:06 PM I’ve a few pix which I’ll get to later. Mostly taken after the actual toast as it was hissing down then.
Surprisingly palatable stuff this year. We are slipping. Title: Re: The Carey Hancock Toast. Post by: Andy on August 13, 2018, 02:48:52 PM Colin took lots of pictures.
