Title: Re: New Beer Supplier for Festival Post by: Andy on May 19, 2021, 12:57:54 PM Surprising, as Wadworth's have supplied for many years.
I hope they have some lighter ales. Title: Re: New Beer Supplier for Festival Post by: davidmjs on May 19, 2021, 02:31:23 PM Surprising, as Wadworth's have supplied for many years. Since the beginning? If not certainly since the mid-80s anyway.... If not certainly since the mid-80s anyway.... Since 1983, according to "The Woodworm Years". Anyway, the tie-up with Hook Norton is potentially good news, nothing wrong with their beers. A change is probably due, after all, a couple of years ago I set up a tongue-in-cheek petition asking Wadworth to re-instate regular 6X alongside the "Gold" gluten-free variety. It got 55 signatures :) https://www.change.org/p/wadworth-s-brewery-reinstate-original-6x-at-fairport-s-cropredy-convention Title: Re: New Beer Supplier for Festival Post by: Bridgwit (Bridget) on May 19, 2021, 02:53:19 PM Surprising, as Wadworth's have supplied for many years. I hope they have some lighter ales. HOOKY 3.5% ABV A subtly balanced, amber bitter, hoppy to the nose, malty on the palate – the classic session beer, eminently drinkable. See: Auburn, light amber Smell: Hoppy, soft fruit Taste: Malty, fresh, bittersweet Title: Re: New Beer Supplier for Festival Post by: davidmjs on May 19, 2021, 03:03:35 PM Surprising, as Wadworth's have supplied for many years. Title: Re: New Beer Supplier for Festival Post by: vince42 on May 19, 2021, 07:13:46 PM Mmmm - Hooky Gold....
Just my personal favourite - I usually take a trip past the brewery to pick up a few bottles as it's almost impossible to find up here in Glasgow. Unfortunately those around me the next day don't like how my system handles it. Title: Re: New Beer Supplier for Festival Post by: StephenB on May 20, 2021, 02:39:41 PM "I love 6X." Say that out loud and people around you might indeed be worried. (Try it now. 😉) Title: Re: New Beer Supplier for Festival Post by: PaulT on May 20, 2021, 06:48:14 PM Deffo Theakstons in 79. I remember buying my sister a half of Old Peculier - and having (!) to then drink it as she didn't like it. We stayed on't Best Bitter for the rest of the evening.
Title: Re: New Beer Supplier for Festival Post by: StephenB on May 20, 2021, 07:30:51 PM Yes, it's all coming back to me now... I knew it was lovely fine ale ending in ..stons. A tanker of it ( no, that's not what I drank....)

Title: Re: New Beer Supplier for Festival Post by: Speleologist (Robin) on May 29, 2021, 01:29:13 PM My understanding is that Wadworths got the gig when Theakstons concluded that supplying so far a way as Cropredy. The bar was being run by the late, great Neil Cutts, landlord of The White Bear in Masham, the Thakston brewery tap. I recall, probably in 1988 the Daily Mail magazine did a feature on Cropredy. The WHite Bear was my local at the Time and I was in there, chatting with Neil, when he received the summons to explain to the powers that be, why he, a Theakstns landlord, was selling Wadworths. Fortunately the article also mentioned the White Bear and we all suggested that he pointed out the publicity they had got. It must have worked because he survived the interview.

Title: Re: New Beer Supplier for Festival Post by: PhilipK on June 01, 2021, 03:00:47 PM Drat! I'll miss the Corvus Stout.
I just hope that Hook Norton provide something to cater to those of us who believe that good beer should be black! Title: Re: New Beer Supplier for Festival Post by: Ian_ on June 01, 2021, 03:12:59 PM Hooky do a pretty good 'Double Stout', but obviously no idea if it will be available at the Festival bar https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/3052/7266/ Title: Re: New Beer Supplier for Festival Post by: Malcolm on June 01, 2021, 07:54:27 PM I strongly recommend a brewery tour and a lunch in their 'tap' where everthing they make on draught is available. Maybe a cab job from Banbury to be on the safe side?
