I've always enjoyed it as an album though it isn't anything groundbreaking.

DW He's got a great voice and I love a fair chunk of his work (and always enjoy his guest spots), but he doesn't ever show much interest in the English folk tradition...so there's a fairly fundamental schism between almost everything Fairport did after the summer of '69 and his own career. Title: Re: Ian Matthews - Stealin Home Post by: Peter Allen on September 10, 2021, 10:22:05 AM Iain was exactly the right singer to be the foil to Judy and Sandy but he moved on at the right time for both Fairport (as they moved to English trad from Jefferson West Coast) and for himself ( Americana and "Woodstock" around the corner)
I think CBS pushed Ian to be more mainstream , his Vertigo LP's are more collectable , but that's more to do with the swirl label design and scarcity His voice remains superb 50 years on from his big hit , and as David says anytime he's rejoined Fairport on stage his contributions have been A1 |
