Joshua Burnell
The Rails
Black Country, New Road
Katherine Priddy
Tedeschi Trucks Band (we didn't really get a bluesy artist this year.)
Postmodern Jukebox (leftfield, and also highly improbable, but I think they'd go down well.)

In my best Kevin Keegan voice I'll say that I'd love, really love to see how the "keep politics off the stage" (aka keep left wing politics off the stage) brigade would deal with them.  Bloody marvellous band.  A bit busy raising babies at the moment though aren't they?

I usually think about who I haven’t seen at Cropredy before, so seconds for Heaton & Abbott and Merry HellAlso

Imagined Village
Simple Minds
Crowded House
False Lights
Steve Earle
Stereophonics
Luke Jackson (why stop inviting the winter support?).

For a superb headliner, Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul. Or even Nile Rodgers. The most popular at
Lytham festival was Bryan Adams who also went down well at Cornbury.

Always felt the envelope needs to be pushed a little with some soul, reggae or especially world music. Jimmy Cliff or Toots and the Maytals (if they are still going). On a separate thread, I suggested Bill Bailey as a different option. I know that comedy can be difficult to please everyone but the strong musical content of his act can help overcome that (I treasure his ragtime version of Stairway to Heaven!)

After the last brilliant Cropredy line up I would like to see a similar mix of genres.

Del Amitri and Elbow as Thursday & Friday headliners. (Assuming getting Faun over from Germany would prove too difficult).

Merry Hell
Amsterdam
Kapreka's Constant
Jamestown Brothers
either Peatbog Fairies or Dreadzone returning.
and Gaz Brookfield all on the bill.
with Becky Mills as the pre Fairport slot on Saturday.

Show of Hands with Track Dogs, as per the Shrewsbury Folk Festival performance.

This partnership takes them in a very different and more challenging, but entertaining direction.

Alas, I don't think this partnership will continue as Miranda is due to return soon, which is great. A real dichotomy for me.

Show Of Hands
Chris While & Julie Matthews
The Stranglers
The Zombies (an ideal Cropredy band who would surprise a lot of people)
The Albion Band 1978 presents Rise Up Like The Sun (with all surviving willing (and yes, un-incarcerated) members present).
Luke Jackson
The Beach Boys (well, we've had Brian so it's Mike & Bruce's turn)
EX-TC featuring XTC's Terry Chambers
Steeleye Span
Yes (despite the politics of the current incarnation, they'd be good for the prog slot)
Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets

Setlists for these shows were great (I'm agnostic on the Leo Sayer cover, mind)...but who was in the band...is it Zak and Pino and Simon or....?

Answered my own question here...just found it...so Simon and his son Ben...and  Doug Boyle (guitar); Geraint Watkins (keyboards); John Hogg (bass); Jody Linscott (percussion); Billy Nicholls (backing vocals); Steve ‘West’ Weston (harmonica), and Katie Jacoby (violin).  Decent band, that!

I've had a Google and can't find any reference to this, but I suspect that was because it was a last-minute booking and all the articles I found are press releases sent out when they sign the big headliners.

I'd love to see Roger Daltrey at Cropredy. I have a brilliant album he did with Wilko Johnson, and he would also be a very welcome guest  ;D

It certainly did and was a great evening. Fairport headlined and did a set of around 30-40 minutes from memory. Rest of the bill was Eliza, Kate Rusby, Set L and Reg Meuross.

It was a great gig - here's my own report of proceedings, one of my first ever posts on the hallowed pages of Talkawhile !  :)

"Just got in...a sublime evening of music !!! Eliza Carthy was as entertaining as ever, Kate Rusby (with strings) very polished, Seth Lakeman moved the earth, and Fairport provided a rousing finale. Reg Meuross also played a couple of songs (heard of but never heard him before, would like to hear him again). The evening was expertly compered by Mike Harding, with FC introduced by Simon Mayo (he told the yarn of how FC got the gig in the first place). Highlights of FC's set included Summer in December, Lord Marlborough, WKWTTG featuring Kellie While, a rocking Dirty Linen attached to Matty Groves, and MOTL featuring Kellie and Seth. All in all, a great evening - apart from the excellent music it certainly increased my awareness of what the Teenage Cancer Trust is all about. By the way, The Albert Hall is still a very special place to watch live music, must go there again soon - FC's 45th Anniversary Tour in 2012 ?"

I was thinking Stereophonics are still too big for Cropredy...they are still filling stadiums...but actually I note on a little digging that they do smaller festivals too..mostly though with other more ‘current’ bands for want of a better word! I’d love to see them live...I wonder how they would affect ticket sales?

I would love to see Supergrass back, but they are having a resurgence and at one festival were headlining above the ‘phonics. Also, would like Fleet Foxes.

If we were in borderline fantasy territory, I would like to see Jack White and Father John Misty. Jack headlining and FJ in late afternoon...I am not sure when we will next make it,  but if they were there I would do my best.

More realistically, I agree about Chris While and Julie Matthews, we saw them a few times when we first met, their music means a lot to us.  I don’t know if Sally Barker still does the Joni Mitchell show, which we saw in Halifax years ago, but I would also love to see that at Cropredy as it would be a lovely ethereal singalong.

Ryley Walker

Probably too big an act but Paul Weller would be an excellent Thursday/Friday headliner

At least some of the Supergrass fans at Cropredy 2008 were drunk, obnoxious, set fire to their tents and scarpered leaving a very messy campsite. Quite the worst behaved of any group's fans I have ever seen there.

Probably because they are relatively local . On the couple of occasions that we used the low numbered campsites behind the cricket club there were regular gatherings of local teenagers with large supplies of alcohol, many without tickets. Their behaviour was awful (my daughter in law narrowly avoided serious injury from an unopened tin of beans thrown from behind - she hasnt been back since}. The stewards eventually coralled them into an empty field that they named the Creche. I like Supergrass albums but found them boring at Cropredy.

It was also at the absolute nadir of their career and they ceased business with a year or so.  I thought they were dull as ditchwater.  I watched their recent Glastonbury performance and it was a bit better than the Cropredy show but still nothing special for me.  There's something of a forced jollity to even their best material that makes me want to chuck tins of beans around (it wasn't me, honest).

Yes Joan is definitely better in a smaller venue. I didn't take much notice of Supergrass in 2008 but my niece who was with me enjoyed them. I really enjoyed their set on Glastonbury this year...I felt they had matured and Gaz’s voice in tracks like ‘Moving’ was superb.

Anyway, will strike them off my wishlist for the sake of others’ views tee hee.

Didn’t Joan A follow on from a really fine RT set? I remember feeling at the time that the two were in the wrong order, and for her it was a case of the right place at the wrong time.

Saw Supergrass earlier this summer at the Jubilation festival. Seemed to be well received but left me a bit cold other than the odd track. Mind you, they were sandwiched between Squeeze and Madness, both of whom were excellent.

Sparks would certainly be great - just catching up with their Berlin Live frome 2017, shown last night on Sky Arts.

She also suffered from speaker problems, as I recall.

Any chance of The Specials?

Every chance. They played at Beautiful Days this year.

Having seen them all at Moseley Folk Festival this weekend, I'd add the following to my Cropredy wishlist:

- The Longest Johns
- Midlake
- Yasmin Williams
- Bonfire Radicals
- Kurt Vile
- Jethro Tull (best I've seen them in ages).

Read about five minutes after hearing a mate of mine bemoan how abject they were at A New Day...

The year Supergrass played was a low point in terms of the general 'feel' of the festival. I don't know how much of it could be attributed directly to people drawn to the festival by Supergrass specifically but we saw fights, fires, crazy driving on the campsites and, if I remember correctly, there were stage announcements advising people to keep their valuables at the bottom of their sleeping bags. It didn't feel like Cropredy at times that year. I thought that the band's attitude to the festival was a bit off too but might have just been my general dislike of them colouring my viewpoint..."Keep our teeth nice and clean....Smoke a fag, put it out"....etc....erm…..okay lads.

I thought they were awful and made no attempt to connect with the crowd. I also remember we spent more time at the fringe that year. It was exceptionally good but I've no idea who we saw! (The beer was good too....  ;D )

Having seen the Wurzels closing the Somerset County Show last Sunday, I (genuinely!) think they could brighten up a Cropredy afternoon rather well. (Tommy Banner is 83 and Pete Budd 82, so they said they've got about another 10 years of performing yet.) Great musicians and still very funny.

Carl Palmer's ELP show

Ooooo yes please! I'd be down the front for that  one :)

Whilst we're on the Prog, would be nice to have Rick Wakeman back too, plus any/all of Yes

And if we're looking at Tribute acts, From The Jam features Bruce Foxton and they're absolutely brilliant  :D

His website has this information:
Sole surviving member Carl Palmer, in association with the Estates of his bandmates Keith Emerson & Greg Lake, has announced the much anticipated WELCOME BACK MY FRIENDS - THE RETURN OF EMERSON LAKE & PALMER Tour. Launching on Friday November 18th, 2022 at the 2300 ARENA in Philadelphia, PA, the tour will actually reunite ELP LIVE ON STAGE through modern technology.

After exploring the idea of a Hologram tour in detail, Palmer (with the Estates of Emerson and Lake) opted for what they felt was a more honest approach using live footage of Keith and Greg on massive video walls alongside Carl (and his band) playing LIVE on stage. The voice and instrumentation of Greg Lake and the unmistakable keyboard mastery of Keith Emerson will be mixed with Palmer's onstage live drumming to magically reunite ELP once again. Paul McCartney's duet with John Lennon at the end of his recent Got Back tour is a good idea of what ELP fans can expect from this show.

Ok, that sort of makes a little more sense in this current backwards looking universe....

Nice mention of the festival, with photo, in this month's Waterways World as part of a feature on the Oxford Canal.
Few bands can aspire to this..... :) :)
