If you think this is a golden era for dramatic companies and venues taking risks on new and unproven material, you are quite simply mistaken. There's acres of press out there about the difficulties facing commercial theatre, and the dumbing down of options to satisfy audiences for venues and funders as available monies get spread thinner and thinner. It's exactly the same in theatreland as it is in gig venues, and indeed (to get us back on topic) music festivals...
