Folk Music means music that belongs to folks.  Pop or Popular Music means music that belongs to people.  People are folk and folk are people.......and so on, and so on and scooby-dooby-dooby.  Elephant talk!

Its weird.  Fairport started out in the underground rock clubs, but ended up playing in folk oriented clubs.  They were primarily rockers playing folk, whereas the members of Steeleye, who were folkies, ended up playing rock music in large arenas.  Both were folk -rock acts, but the orientation was the polar opposite of the other.

Does it really matter whether they fit into a category or not? if you like them you like them - if you don't then you don't. Whatever they are they are bloody brilliant and long may it continue.  Grin
