The Hardtalk thing was a waste of time. The interviewer (who I used to think was good) had obviously just had a couple of printouts from "Wikipedia - Richard Thompson" handed to her ten minutes before the interview and knew nothing about traditional/folk/ folk rock music (or Richard Thompson) at all. The confrontational/challenging ethos of the program 'HardTalk' lends itself to political figures being held to account, less so to musicians whose agent's have obviously ****** up a booking.

Agree with most of what has been said above. I thought it was very disrespectfull to not have even read up the correct title of the song "Meet on the Ledge" (Meet the Ledge??!). Apart from that, her whole attitude seemed to be: "Oh, aren't you really intelligent for a 'pop' singer?" Pity, because as someone has already said, she is normally a very good and sharp interviewer.

Worth watching to hear RT vehemently denouncing certain popstars as ****.
Full marks to him for not getting drawn by her silly questions about the Gaza situation.

And a pretty helpful geography lesson to show that Islam in Morocco is no further East than the UK

I've just watched this on BBC iPlayer - and, yes, the interviewer clearly wasn't as knowledgable as she would have been interviewing a politician - but it is still an interesting watch. Richard was patient and restrained, but also clearly 'his own man' and quite in control. Worth catching for most fans, I'd say...

Very good review of "1000 of Popular Music" at the Barbican, in today's Guardian. I went to see him at the Corn Exchange, Cambridge last night. Unfortunetly, only caught the second half, because of an earlier emergency at work, but worth it none-the less, even for a 30 second conversation with RT about the origins of Sufi Islam, at the merchandise stall afterwards.
