I had open heart surgery to repair mitral and tricuspid valves with a maze for good measure 9 weeks ago. I was very glad to have roughly 10 hours of Fairport on my microSD to help pass the time during my 10 days in hospital!

Sympathies. I've not had open heart surgery, although they've had a good tinker around with an angiogram and have had my heart stopped and restarted several times in an attempt to fix my Atrial fibrillation (cardioversion). My mitral valve is a bit leaky but nothing of concern, I am told. That was a few years back, the drugs I take to control it are very effective and I'm stable (in that single regard ) Dunno if I could cope with 10 hours of Fairport! I might mix that up with Yes and Genesis, to name but two. Glad your surgery is completed and hope you're feeling better. Andy

Andy I've got AF which was diagnosed by the medical officer at the NFFF (to whom I'm eternally grateful- may he rest in peace), but I think 10 hours of Yes and Genesis would finish me off!! I wouldnt wish that on anyone!

I had an artificial valve inserted in January 2000. If I recall correctly, all I had to listen to back then was the dreaded hospital radio

Someone very close to me had open heart surgery at the end of 2019…. He had an aortic valve replacement…
I don’t know what he listened to, but for me the waiting and the worrying was horrendous!

10 hours of Yes and Genesis is only a half dozen songs, max.
Get well soon Stephen.

Andy Thanks Andy, although I had 10 hours of Fairport I think I mainly alternated between a Mill Theatre Banbury 1992 warm up set from the Full House line up and Gladys Leap from the 3rd day in ICU. I think I mainly slept during the first 2 days!

I couldn’t get my head around listening to music in hospital. Talking books though we’re good. Following my heart op holding my iPad to read was not easy; ear plugs and good long leads were just the job.
Avoided anything that was likely to make me laugh though…

I'm guessing you had open chest, I had minimally invasive so leaning in my right side was no go. It's funny, folks refer to it as keyhole as if there is only one entry point - once the bruising had gone, I counted 9 scars for all the drains, wires to the heart and more!

When I had an angiogram, some years back, they went up to my heart via the femoral artery.
After the procedure (I was "tatty but ok") the wound on my leg had to have pressure applied for 45 minutes in order that it clotted ok.
To my great delight, a young (female) Nurse came into the room, put a pad on my leg and sat on me for 45 minutes.
Sadly, the bleeding had stopped after that, so she got off.
