Sandy made a cameo in Becoming Led Zeppelin, which I saw yesterday (highly recommended).

In a newspaper clipping from 1970, right next to an announcement about Zep, was a box that declared "Joni and Sandy" as the U.K.'s favorite girl singers.

The doc ends with a triumphant Royal Albert Hall appearance in 1970 with many of the group's family members in attendance. We didn't get anything past Led Zeppelin II. By stopping in 1970, they deftly avoided more controversial areas of the band's history.

As it's called 'Becoming Led Zeppelin' 1970 would be an appropriate place to end the movie.

'Deftly avoiding' anything probably didn't come into it.

What controversial areas are we talking about ?

The director has said he hopes to make two further films, Being Led Zeppelin and Coda respectively. I thoroughly enjoyed the first one. The sound is fabulous.

I wouldn't agree that Google is a friend of mine, and I'm aware of Zep controversy, I was just trying to see if we could narrow it down a bit.

When in doubt, questionably legal sex and illegal drugs and Peter Grant.

Yes and yes, and Jimmy’s underage gal pal, and John Bonham’s and Peter Grant’s violence and thuggery, as well as tragic episodes like the deaths of children and Bonzo. I was not aware of the plans for two further films, so I guess they can’t avoid these subjects, deftly or otherwise.

My only interaction with Peter Grant was at a 100 Club Pretty Things show shortly before he died in '95.  He had lost virtually all his weight, and was almost ostentatiously polite.

[The sound is fabulous.

Saw it yesterday. The sound is indeed fabulous but, Valhalla, was it uncomfortably loud! It might just have been that particular cinema, but I've been to actual live gigs with less volume.

I loathe the sound volumes in cinemas today - in modern parlance, I find it highly triggering and genuinely distressing.  It's why, as a rule, I prefer to watch films on my laptop.

That was certainly not a problem at the cinema that I went to but I agree with David, sometimes it is intolerably loud, though I find that is mostly for the adverts and trailers and less so for the actual movie. As a (lapsed) film scholar I could never condone watching films intended for the big screen on a laptop though I guess it is better than not watching them at all.
