Challenge

Hi Pegy.

Is there a song or tune in the Fairport back catologue that presents more of a challenge than others to play live, and which song would you rather not play but feel you have to as a band?

Also how much of a challenge is it to keep it fresh after all these years and do you find yourself playing it safe at times?

Thanks for all the good times you and the band have given me over the years even though I have trouble remembering them all clearly.

Hi Neil. Theres not much material that presents a challenge to me personally. Thats not being big headed, but when you have played on stuff, certainly in my case I can usually go back to stuff  even when it's many years later and pick up where I left off. This works memory wise but there have been occasions when I know what to play, but no longer have the dexterity. The bass break on Jerry Donahues "Tokyo" springs to mind. Last time Jerry guested at Cropredy we rehearsed it and yours truly wasn't the only one suffering wrist lock!. That's a real bummer so you play something else!.

 There are songs like "Matty" and "Meet" which have been played at 99% of gigs. Matty is always interesting 'cos we have a very loose arrangement for it. Meet means so much to people( including myself) that it can never become a chore to play.I am sure that if we had stuff in the repertoire that was becoming boring to perform said items would be ditched quick.Cheers, Peggy.

I love that bass solo in "Tokyo", Dave and I appreciate what you said you had to give up to be able to play it, too.
