Shoot Out The Lights v I Want To See the Bright Lights Tonight

I've changed my mind twice already in the time it took to type this post.  Oh dear.  So tough.

Withered & Died (a personal favourite) & The Great Valerio won it for me.

Shoot Out The Lights v I Want To See the Bright Lights Tonight

A really closely fought game. On another day it might well have gone the other way. Extra time, and then by the odd goal. It's just a good job sleeve design wasn't taken into account.

Ah now, there's a thought. . .the FC sleeve design cup?

I have just remembered that I am off out to a gig tonight so I am going to have to blow the whistle on this and declare a winner slightly earlier than planned at 5pm.

Hope that is ok with everyone.

It looks as though the Steeleye Cup has another three days to get through so I will try and post the Champions League fixtures on Monday. Progress throughout the week thereafter may be sporadic as I shall be away from home for a few days.

OK, it is time to declare another domestic tournament winner. I suspect that this one might be regarded as something of an upset. SOTL may have flaunted their higher Rolling Stone ranking but by quite a considerable margin, youth and a touch of joie de vivre managed to inflict a surprisingly heavy defeat. I declare the winners of the 2010 RT Cup to be:

I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight.

They will now proceed to the Champions League. Fixtures to be announced on Monday.

NB The margin of victory was 18 - 4

By virtue of winning their individual tournaments.

So far we have Liege & Lief from the FC Cup and Bright Lights from this one.

The Sandy Cup concludes tomorrow and the Steeleye one probably on Monday.

Oh God yeah.  I could do these all day.  (Except tomorrow - I'm out all day tomorrow.)

Where would you start, or indeed stop with the Dead?  Grin

Dylan would be fun if someone fancies organising it. I am tallied out!  Wink Grin

I think it falls outside of FAFAs remit though.

In all seriousness, if this has really captured people's imagination I am happy to run an expanded version of the Folk Rock Championship next season with maybe 8 tournaments (to be defined but I'd like to include Oysterband and the cream of Fairport offshoots not covered elsewhere. I will be happy to take suggestions for other options, though my knowledge of some of the likely candidates may be sketchy) and an extended field of competitors leading to a more substantial Champions League. I will also see if I can structure it in such a way that some of the winners are less predictable and level the playing field for the minnows. Not sure quite how to do that yet but I'll put my thinking cap on.

I like the idea, but we need to pick up some of the bands that haven't released enough albums to have a knockout.

One of my all time favourites is First Utterance by Comus. Perhaps we could have a round to include these one off great records.

That is the kind of thing I have in mind, though Comus are a perfect example of a band about whom I know nothing.

Easy - just the Dead albums before Garcia died (the "pre-dead Dead" ??  Grin ) to include all the studio albums and the official live ones that were on their two major labels, probably less than 20 albums or so all told.  Forget about all the "Dick's Picks" and the other "From the Vault" stuff.

And Dylan, of course, would be very straightforward...for someone else to organize.  NOT ME!
