Cool.  I don't know if they will all necessarily be live recordings, they say they may include some demos too.

Not so interested in the first offering, but I must remember to check back and see what they are offering on subsequent weeks.

I have a feeling that today's offering "The Fossil Hunter" is from Off The Desk, probably of limited use if you have the CD already. However, it's a very nice idea if we can have alternative takes etc.

Yes, I was thinking it might be the Off The Desk version too.

This Fossil Hunter is track 2 from Fairport's Live Cropredy Special of 2004.

(No brainer, since it says so in the metadata)

I may be being dim, but does that mean it was recorded at Cropredy in 2004?  I don't see any reference to anything released from that year's festival on the discography section of the Expletive Delighted website, which is usually fairly comprehensive.

In fact, I realised it can't have been, as the setlist for that year's Cropredy on the same website doesn't list The Fossil Hunter as having been played there.  So was it a special released to promote Cropredy?  Or what?

It was a freebie given with tickets for Cropredy in 2005. I've still got my copy somewhere.

There was a 4 track live CD sent out with the first few hundred ticket orders in 2004. The tracks were 'Off the desk' outtakes as far as I recall. It doesn't list source details but the tracks are Journeyman's Grace, Fossil Hunter, Canny Capers and Si Tu Dois Partir.

This week it is a live version of How Many Times: http://www.fairportconvention.com/downloads.php.  No information I can see about when or where it was from, though I don't think I have heard it played live for many years now.

Oh, and my download arrived on the computer as a file with .php on the end.  But I just changed it to .mp3 and it played fine.

It appeared on The Lasting Spirit (Disc 2) - sounds like it may be the same version

The version on The Lasting Spirit was the original album version, which this is not. My guess is that it's from a gig sometime in the late 80s/early 90s.
