They don't. They just magically 'feel better' owning them. I once estimated how much of my music collection I actually listen to: 5% is probably a massive over-estimate. It's almost literally a form of madness...

Like? Sweet lord, I didn't realise we had to like the stuff we carry around with us like a lead weight...I need to look at my collection in a whole different light now (maybe that's the advantage of digital only)

It's very pleasing news, but after a brief wobble I think I've decided to leave things where I left them after the Ratdog tours in 2002/03, which were exquisite. I don't have the money or the patience for this...
