Retrieving this thread from page 3..... Getting closer to the February 2006 release date, Free Reed have published further info on this set, including pix of the CD covers. The actual tracklisting should appear on RTs website any day now... Click here and scroll down.....

Disk 5 looks very interesting ...not quite as excited by the others, but I'm sure I'll be buying it! Adam

You're right about the sleeves - shame as previous RT releases have often had outstanding covers.

These are designed by Free Reed though - and they haven't done any other RT releases as yet.

My only "complaint" is that there seems to be little really old material. A demo of "Genesis Hall" from the 60's, not all that much from the 70's (except on the 5th CD), so most of it is from the 80's and 90's.
I like the stuff from the 80's and 90's, I just also really like the 70's material as well. Though, I suppose they want the focus to be RT solo, not necessarily with Linda or with Fairport.
Just a preference to see more of the material from the 70's. I actually saw RT with DT last night at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA (review to follow in the next day or so), and aside from "Hockey Pokey," I think that was the only pre-80's song he did. And again, I would loved to see him do some early songs. Not really a complaint I guess, just a preference. It was a great show last night, and I'm really looking forward to the box set. So, ya, I'll stop with the run on sentences and general blathering...

Relative to my knowledge, there are a couple of decent soundboards broadcasts from the late 70's, but most of the recordings from HENRY to POUR DOWN are limited to inferior, high generation (although, to me, enjoyable) audience recordings. Much of the demos of interest from that period 68 - 75 have been already chronicled in the DOOM & GLOOM series and WATCHING THE DARK as well as all of the various Fairport, Sandy & Guv'nor retrospectives. Tons of stuff from the 80's forward, 'cause RT started allowing folks to patch into the board, resulting in an abundance of quality recordings.

Good point, if RT was rolling that much tape during the 70's, there's nothing to release. Like you wrote, aside from some radio broadcasts, if there wasn't much recorded, there isn't much to release.

I was hoping the box set might include some stuff from the Oxford Polytech gig in '75. I have an audience version of the complete show and it has a wonderful set list, covering material from HENRY thru SILVER. A soundboard version of the whole show surely must exist, since 3 tracks were included on GUITAR / VOCAL, namely Calvary Cross and Night Comes In.

For those who aren't sure of whether to go for this one, the new The Word magazine has a lengthy review this month (it should be out soon if not yet) which seeems to do a nice summing up job. Interestingly, they also comment on the cover art Since I was promised one for Christmas, I look forward to compiling all the best bits on to one handy-for-the-car CD.

Only because no-one seems to have mentioned it, there was also one of those question/answer type features in the Independent over the weekend. I think it was the Sunday magazine, but, sadly, the council collect our recycling on Tuesday( Too much information?)

Blimey! Took me a while finding this so as not to start a new topic It's got to the point where I now need to sell things that I don't want to sell I've a copy of this box set, WITH the 6th CD, in perfect condition. I seem to recall one went on ebay a while ago for silly money but can't remember how much (well over £100). Before I decide whether to sell it or not, can anyone suggest what this might fetch today ?

Not sparkling news for you methinks - when I went on to the FreeReed site it is advertised at £44.99, but it gets worse/better (depending on whether you are selling or buying), when you click Buy Now, it comes up at £30. Perhaps a candidate for Bargain Bin....

Thanks, but I'm under the impression that the limited release 6th CD fetches the silly money, not the 5 disc box on its own ?

I presume it is: "The first 5,000 copies sold include the offer of a 6th write-in CD!" - in which case I wouldn't know, but good luck.

I'd heard that they haven't all sold & still includes the 6th. You'll need to email Free Reed and check.

I picked up a copy with the 6th disc at Croppers in 2007, and they were still in plentiful supply then. I think they pressed up more than they might have let on.
I still reckon you'd get £75 for it though. At least.
