Looking forward to seeing SS myself, though I do tend to prefer Maddy Prior in one of her other incarnations these days - MP and the Girls were excellent when we saw them last week, perhaps they should be on at Cropredy instead.

Cheers
Dunc

If you get a chance to see Maddy and the Carnival Band on tour this Christmas do so - they are a joy.

Probably need to refresh your cache, Mix....

When on the FC site, try <CTRL> & F5 together, and then try for the news page.

Hi all,

I'd also like to add that SS in their present incarnation are VERY good indeed. Check out the recent Live DVD for proof! Best of all they are still doing trad. arr material featuring solid electric guitar riffs courtesy of Ken Nicol. There's also a fab drum solo... check it out.

I agree.  In my opinion the current Steeleye and it's material can blow the current Fairport and it's material off stage without breaking a sweat.  Perhaps that's why they are playing Thursday  Wink  But it's all a matter of personal preference.  Over the years Fairport has been a far more consistent band than Steeleye.

However, judging a band's 36 year career on the basis of one song is pathetic.

No, don't think it's you.  I can't seem to find it either.  Maybe it's being updated?

Perhaps this should be another thread but i think the main problem with Cropredy festival when compared to other Festivals is the lack of any alternative. The Wrants may well be talented but other festivals would surely give them the opportunity to play on smaller stage rather than going straight to the main stage with X thousand people, also many of the acts booked over the years do not work on the bigger stage unless you are right at the front or are looking for some back ground noise. I know there are other musical options available in the village but there only so many versions of Wishing Well you can take!

Perhaps the boys should consider another stage in a marquee down by the river where new bands such as Tin Tin Lady can do a full set, lets face it much smaller festivals have three or four stages available, in my opinion this would add greatly to the appeal of Cropredy and would also provide a much needed refuge from Richard Digance.

What the chance of a second stage???

...on the other hand one of the attractions of Cropredy is that you don't miss anything, and don't have to study the schedule every day, choose who you want to see, and rush from one stage to another inbetween acts.  Grin

Couldn't agree more, and the fact that we're all there for the same thing makes it special and different.

Next to zero, I would think.

It's working well at the moment - and to put a marquee where you suggest will take money to hire & erect, staff (more money) and prime camping land (even more money - to hire more campsite as it gets full now)

I'm more than happy with the structure of the Cropredy festival..  it's selfcontainedness is one of its main attractions...  makes it unique, compact, all one big party...

Don't change it....

And as has been said already if you don't like what is on the main stage head into the village for an alternative.

As to the Wrants they have now played Cornbury and Banbury festivals with good notices so I'm sure the Thursday afternoon crowd at Cropredy won't be too much for them.

must admit that being a quite new to the cropardy festival I found just the single stage different, but its a great formula.
should you need a break from the arena theres always one of the village pubs.

leave it be, its unique

thought maybe i should stick my fez back into this one.
yes to the st johns area top, pubs in town sounds like the best way to fill my strum bag, that extra field, with the cash machine, was also a great place to spend time, hope the complaints weren't too persistent, and yes, one stage does gel everybody closer.
but still... just a little one? maybe for coffee on the way home? please? Grin
