Marvellous article, I think! Captures the flavour of some of that era, I was too young for all of that of course. Apart from a snow-bound cottage in Derbyshire, living with some friends, real ale and the odd bit of herbal tobacco in the latter part of the 70's that is........

That was the end of the Angel, too, of course. The last I heard, bottled spring water is now produced on the site, which is ironic really, when you think of all the dubious stuff we put into the ground there 35 years ago.


Update:

I live about four miles from the Angel, which still has the wrought iron pub sign holder attached to it and a noticeable scar of different colour bricks where the lorry went in. RT's ref to bottled spring water is about a mile off course. Hadham Water, available in a supermarket near you, folks, comes from up the hill at Hadham Hall.

If RT thought the traffic on the A120 was loud then, he should try it now!

Two years ago, FC did a one-off summer gig in the Garden Centre at Much Hadham, the next village over, and great it was. The village history-in-pictures contains several references to the Police Party and FC generally, who were well accepted, as RT says.

I love the way he recalls the time with such affection, I've always thought of RT as a bit cold, but the more I find out about the guy the more I like him.
