a history of fairport convention

hey y'all,
whilst in glasto second hand record shop i found a 'history of fairport' double vinyl with a 'book' in the middle, and a family tree (with our jude on the first branch)and WENT TO 1972 and is £6.99 a good or bad price as it was not in good nick?
also saw a 2x2cd set of the unofficial history, at £39.99. bargain or bogey?
didnt buy each, always scared of being ripped off..........

"History..." Is a perfect introduction to the early years (all Joe Boyd I think) although I don't remember anything from the first album on there. It's certainly the one Fairport CD to choose if you could only choose one.

The first album was on Polydor, so no tracks from it went onto the'History of' as it was an Island compilation. Later on Island bought up/merged/married/? with Polydor so they could use tracks from the first album as well

What are you waiting for? Great intro. So much good music in just 5 years!  John Wood's sleeve notes are invaluable. If it has the cloth rosette attached, it may be worth a lot more to a collector.

It was also released on CD but beware that the CD version is missing two tracks. Crazy Man Michael and The Jigs and Reels Medley were left out cause they couldn't fit them on the CD.

But when I bought it it was the only way to get the original recording of Now Be Thankful on CD. Of course now it's on the remastered Full House.
