I'm pretty sure they're from 1987, when the band supported (or more like 'morphed into') Jethro Tull in the US.
That sounds interesting, any video of it?

That sounds interesting, any video of it? I'm sure there must be somewhere...basically (I think I'm right in saying) Fairport did a 30 or 40 minute set then Ric and Simon wandered off to be replaced by Ian and Martin for a full Tull set.

I saw that tour in Baltimore - went really only to see Fairport, and actually left in the middle of the Tull set, since they were into their "heavy metal" period and it was pretty unlistenable to me. But I do not recall Maart being in the lineup with Tull, just Peggy, and definitely not DM (I'm a huge DM fan and would have stayed just to listened to him). This site ( http://www.electrocutas.co.uk/dates/td20.htm) says the lineup was "IAN ANDERSON. MARTIN BARRE DAVE PEGG. DON AIREY & GERRY CONWAY OR DOANE PERRY." And then there's this site ( http://www.cupofwonder.com/crest2.html) with a fairly nicely detailed write-up of that era for Tull, with some references to Peggy (with a photo) and Cropredy, and a picture of a drummer who is definitely not Dave Mattacks.

I'm sure Maart did play keyboards, but I'm sure he or someone else will come and correct us if I'm wrong! Update: I've just checked, and Wiki tells me that Maart was in Tull from January 1988 to December 1991, so, you're probably right...

At work so can't check on this, but by description what Sam says is correct, as this was my first time hearing the words Fairport Convention before. In my case I saw them at the Centrum in Worcester, Massachusetts (monumental moment in my life actually-but I have written about it before on here so will let it go at that). It was Don Airey on keyboards and Doane Perry on the drums. As Tull was touring for Crest Of A Knave, Ric definitely came out to play his part on Budapest, and if memory serves correct, I think Simon and Maart may have come out as well, joining Peggy. Don't remember if DM came out. I still have the program from that tour!

Actually, I just watched the clip on my iphone and can identify the Matty Groves and Crazy Man Michael clips. I correct myself, they are not from 1987(though the details of that 1987 US Tull support tour are correct), but from 1991, from the Alive In New York video, filmed at the now defunct Bottom Line Club here in NYC. PS, you can't see me, but I was there This was in support of The Five Seasons album, and featured Maart reading that name in Japanese from a scrap of paper for benefit of the Japanese release! I don't have a Youtube account so if anyone wants to help the poster out, feel free. So guess that still leaves undocumented any clips of FC from that US support tour.
