Does anyone know how Swarb and RT divvied-up the music/lyric writing on the songs they co-wrote?
I'm not sure that's a question you can ask any musician.. it's delving into personal finance territory  Is it? I thought it was just a question about working practice, rather than divvying up of funds. My recollection from one of the RT interviews I've seen is that he mostly wrote the words to Swarb's melodies. Well I think you've answered your own question then.. Yes, Richard's words to Swarb's melodies. I think that was maybe one of the reasons RT had to stretch his wings - he wasn't getting to write enough of the tunes. Jules |

Yes, sorry, wasn't thinking about royalties (though I bet they've earned nothing like what we think they deserve).
I've always been fascinated by Now Be Thankful - it's such a perfect, complete and utterly compelling piece of work that I've never figured out how it could be a collaboration, rather one person's sublime flight of fancy.

Here's a Fairport-related rarity - Trevor Lucas guesting with the Bushwackers in 1983 (audio only) on a version of John The Gun! Never officially released. I can tell you the audio originally came from at least a second generation reel-to-reel, then cassette, with very low levels, hiss and mono sound that wandered from side to side. Made me realise just how much I miss that line-up. DC Agreed. I'll be honest...I spent most of their 12 years mourning the one before.. But in retrospect (and I saw them much more than any other lineup - probably 25 times or so) I miss them hugely. I didn't like all their recorded output, but they definitely made good solid studio albums, and the last Fairport one I would really regard as a strong one - Jewel in the Crown - certainly the last one I ever listen to (with the exception of the current lineup's Golden Oldies selection) regularly. |
