Thought forever lost, but now found. The 1975 BBC-TV Babbacombe Lee special with music from Fairport - a combination of '71 & '75 lineups - Martin Carthy etc. Also excerpts from the Australian silent film on the subject, interviews etc.  This is the repeat minus Sandy Denny's version of Breakfast In Mayfair, which apparently was audio-only in the original broadcast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rF2H5iaJoWwWell that's lovely. I'm pretty sure the first airing did have a visible Sandy on "Breakfast In Mayfair". We may never know for sure unless an original copy turns up in a derelict cinema in Burkino Faso, or somewhere. |

I've been told that the original broadcast did feature a visible Sandy - singing the track live sat at a table in a hotel. Not that I've ever seen it myself! |

This is indeed wonderful. I've been fascinated by the John Lee story via Fairport, but there is so much more here to the story that I was unfamiliar with. Plus as a Fairport (and friends) document it is terrific.

Yes, that and the version of Abide With Me will have been recorded especially for the programme, but neither had to be written (as they already had been !). Martin Carthy looked great.
