With the box sets and extra tracks on the new re-issues of albums on Cd's does anybody know of any tracks out there that still aren't available officially. I don't think the alternate version of "The Sailors Alphabet" is out anywhere. Any others out there that people can think of I would be interested to hear.

do you mean officially released  or bootlegs as well?
because theres piles of stuff on bootlegs only
as to any unreased studio stuff that hasnt seen the light of day, i suspect theres a huge amount stuck in reel to reel boxes somewhere

Is there any recording of Maarts messing around when Simon said that they were going to play a Fairport song that started with a Who riff. Maart must have covered half the Who's back catalogue  Smiley

A prize to the first TWer to say what he should have played.

It was a Cropredy during the time when Maart was an official member of the band, and he whipped through Pinball Wizard, My Generation, and probably several others.

If there's a version of the "Lord Archer" Matty Groves from Colchester a few years back out there, which I doubt, I'd dearly love to hear it again  Grin Roll Eyes

If I remember correctly, Simon couldn't hold the words and play his guitar at the same time so a young woman from the audience went on stage to help out.  We were told who wrote the lyrics but I can't remember now.

Didn't Andy Farquarson (sp?) write the lyrics?

I was also there but I didn't share the general enthusiasm. Can't remember why now.

Dear old Carey's mate? Doing something creative?
Carey had a spelling of Farquarson (sp?)

The only 'unreleased' tracks that I can think of are 'Country Judy Jane' and an instrumental, both from the Manor sessions.... Grin

I finished reading Joe Boyd's book last night and he implies that a tape exists of a "jam" session with Led Zepellin and the Full House lineup after a gig at the LA Troubadour. (I seem to recall reading that somewhere else as there were comments about Peter Grant's language - was that on the cover of the original "House Full"?) He said that you can hear Jimmy Page trying to keep up with Richard Thompson and Robert Plant's voice was louder than the amplifiers! That would be rather interesting to hear.

People have been after that for *years*.....

Buried in the Peter Grant archives, if anything still exists.

I'm sure there might be some things yet to be unearthed.  DEAR LANDLORD was a pleasent suprise for me on the first GUV'NOR release and the SAILOR'S LIFE alternate take from WATCHING THE DARK was a mind-blowing discovery.

One BBC curio from the golden age that hasn't been officially released (or really circulated much) - BILLY, THE ORPHAN'S XMAS, which was done at the same session that gave us LIGHT MY FIRE, and was also of a novelty nature.

Concerning remaining  BBC session tracks, one of several Sandy era versions of MORNING GLORY demands to be released and would receive instant canonization.  I have one version that is simply exquisite with an absolutely glorious RT solo!
