It's years old, in fact I'm sure there's a post on here from Simon detailing the origins. Dates back to the sessions for the Albion Band's lost classic 'Light Shining' down in Deal (1982 I think that'll make it). Ordering a meal in a restaurant, going for the footballer special, all prawn cocktails etc, as "Norman Normal" and it just stuck. Summat like that anyway....no real meaning/origin though, unlike Swarb's "Compo" which is pretty self explanatory Have a listen to something like 'The Other Boot' (or anything mid 80s & live) and as well as some pretty stunning music you're sure to hear Peggy use it.

Norm has been Simon's 'nickname' for ever.. as far as I know...
I had no idea. Why "Norm"? Jules Glad somebody else asked....! I've been watching, listening to, and reading about the band for a quarter of a century or more and yesterday was the first time I've ever heard Simon being called anything other than Simon... I heard someone call him "the bored looking bloke with the very long hair" in October 1970.

Really Anji... the mere thought of you dancing vibrantly in silk underwear is enough to lead a chap's thoughts to Grovesian misdemeanours Cold shower time
