So far there have been just the above four UK acoustic dates announced,
please could someone confirm whether or not these will be the only ones??
There's a fifth on the FC website - Andover, Hampshire. Another has appeared on the Robin 2 website - October 10th, 2007. |

As Chris has mentioned it, a few thoughts from the sauna that was Cox's Yard on Sunday evening. Much to the surprise of the Stratford audience, TTL opened for FAC. Roughly the same set as for the Wintour with Danni's voice just about holding out.
Due to some unexplained technical glitch, it seemed that Chris was a bit restricted in changing instruments. The first half closed with a storming violin/mandolin Canny Capers rather than the usual violin/violin interplay. Agree with Chris that Spring Song and The Vision work well acoustically - so,surprisingly, does The VW Song! Other highlights were Beth's vocal on WKWTTG, Lancashire Hills, and John Gaudie(with Chris by now on violin), which closed the set.
S&J - already looking forward to Worcester on Wednesday.

The lead on Chris's fiddle was much shorter than usual, which restricted his movement. When Beth needed his chair, the furthest he could go was the floor of the stage beside her....just!
I didn't find out why the lead was so short....

I blame global warming. Actually re-reading my original post, I really haven't given TTL credit for a great performance. They've really come a long way musically since Tewkesbury. It was a bit of a shame that they couldn't all fit onto the stage to take part in MOTL but Cox's Yard, lovely as it is, is the venue equivalent of a broom cupboard. S&J - still looking forward to Worcester! |

Just in from the Huntingdon Hall - and no, no TTLs in evidence. Very good night though, in spite of the fact that the hall was, unusually for FAC, not completely full. Certainly a memorable evening from my point of view in terms of having two of the biggest laughs I can remember from the 16 years I've been going to see Fairport. First was Simon almost getting away with a quip about a Brazilian, but not (I'll leave the context to your imaginations). Second was Hiring Fair, which was given a big atmospheric build up by Simon and started beautifully, until about 90 seconds in Gerry dropped a tambourine and shattered all thoughts of Cropredy sunsets etc. After a number of comments between the band, plus a stand up apology from Gerry, with Simon continuing to play his guitar all the while underneath, Simon made a valiant attempt to continue. But alas, full on giggles were too much and Simon was unable to sing more than about two more lines before collapsing. So the lad from the Hiring Fair will have to remain lonesome for another night at least. Was very funny though, and we got Slip Jigs and Reels instead.
Definitely a great way to spend a mid week evening, and an ideal bridge for the gap between the Wintour and Cropredy.

Reminds me of St Albans a few years back when Maart had spent ages getting his bouzar in tune while the band quietly waited and quipped. On the very first chord (can't remember which song) he broke a string. SN had to leave the stage to recover! |

Also had a great evening at Worcester. Can't add very much other than to say the chaps seemed really relaxed, even before the Hiring Fair. Ric, in particular, was on overdrive - his intro to Sophisticated Lady which involved Morris dancing and Rastafarian Old Holborn got almost as big a reaction as Simon's Brazilian (if you'll pardon the expression).
After Sunday's hiccup, Chris had a full range of instruments - you don't realise how much depth the bouzouki gives until its not there. The recovery after the Hiring Fair also highlighted for us what terrific musicians the guys are - a couple of words from Simon, a nod here and there, and straight into Slipjigs and Reels. Another example, Canny Capers is a twin violin showcase, but it's not until you sit directly opposite Gerry that you realise how much work he puts in. (Oh, and sorry if it's been mentioned elsewhere, Gerry got a round of applause as a new grandad - perhaps the reason for the falling tambourine!)
