Well, the votes for the Hancocks are over for another year.
In a little while I'll set up some places where we can sort out who gets to present which awards to whom.
Meantime, please use this thread for chatter about the votes themselves.
Cheers
Nick

Tim Van-Eyken, Best Traditional Track! So pleased and well deserved, it couldn't have happened to a nicer person! - Having said that, just ignore the painted toe nails! Dad Volt, eat yer heart out! This is how is should have been done! http://www.timvaneyken.co.uk/

Best Traditional Track was so close!
Seth had a strong early lead but that started to diminsh following the debate on what's Traditional. Tim started gaining ground by a handful of votes each day but it was only late on Saturday evening that he finally tipped the balance.
No complaints for Seth though, he got the Folk Singer award by a good margin.
Cheers

Didn't vote for it but was sorely tempted, I think it is a very attractive version of the song. Well done Tim and crew.
I don't like Salsa Celitca's version of the Grey Cock much (though I do like Eliza singing the song unaccompanied), but I'm surprised it didn't do better than it did.

Salsa Celtica are this years 'Unknowns' as far as the Hancocks are concerned. I suspect not many have yet seen or heard them - certainly very few members of Talkawhile have mentioned them in posts. This will of course change after they appear at the Oxford Folk Festival in two months time. Then everyone will be talking about them Cheers Nick

Will those discussions be archived anywhere? Especially "What's traditional" debate?

Yes they should be Bob. They're there but currently hidden. It was 6am when I worked on writing up the results so didn't have time to do anything to properly archive the original discussions so I tucked them away for later.
Cheers

Thanks, that's good to hear. The reason I was worried was that the 2006 nominee discussions don't seem to be available anywhere. Of course, they're probably right there in plain sight and I can't see them

Do you mean the nomination discussions we had at the end of 2006 for the 2007 awards? Or the discussions for the nominations for the 2006 awards? We've still got the former, not the latter though.

Would it be permissable to start a (locked, maybe?) thread that contains all the winners in one post?....it takes ages switching between all the threads....

Pete, they all won nominations Several of them won nominations from Talkawhile too, from your original proposal, which demonstrates your persuasive skills (if not your ability to render them as ultimately the most popular choice.) Cheers Nick

Joolay Joolay Joolay, ....oh, .....it's all done then. Nevermind, you'll all be fans soon Julie Fowlis, definitely one to watch out for, if you can catch her live, she's worth the effort of listening to songs in Gaelic Sticking with the Scots, Dick Gaughan is 60 next year, just to plant a seed, it may be worth considering a 'most politically consistent pony tailed folk singer from Leith' category in honour of that event for next years awards

Well, the White Hare controversy rumbles on. Here is an article in the Grauniad http://arts.guardian.co.uk/filmandmusic/story/0,,2013578,00.htmlIncidentally, the fifth track nominated, King and Country also by Seth, I am informed is written by Seth too. These Smooth Ops chaps and the panel/judges need to get their act together. I'd better remember to make sure my beard is long enough and my Aran sweater and tankard are packed for Aberdeen, I wouldn't want to disappoint any hacks I might meet.
