With regard to the spammers, is it not possible to include one of those 'verifiers' that require potential members to copy displayed numbers and letters, thereby proving that they are a real person?

As for the person who faked their death, I don't understand why someone would do that. Incredible!
Could be wrong in this but I think spammers have even managed to evade those 'captcha' verifiers. I seem to see more and more security questions now.
There is a 'catcha', but like I said it's done by rooms full of low paid workers, who sell lists of logons to Spammers.
However they don't read the instructions, like using a real name.

We could check the IP for every application, but even that's not 100%, because they often use US proxies.

Generally if the user name isn't pronounceable or the email address has more that one full stop, it's rejected. That at least gets the hundreds a day down to tens.

eg. in the last 90 minutes:
The only one I checked was 'timberlandhi' which was in China. Luckily admins have a 'Reject All' button.

I only named my own name, and I was dead at the time.   Undecided

Ooh,my avatar has vanished .

That would be because the link was broken. Most likely because it was hot-linked to Photobucket and they don't like it.

Hello I was a member of the forum a few years ago as alisoncx but having changed lifestyle and sold the bike I thought I should change my handle on TAW to avoid the predictably inevitable motorbike conversation.  However, in order to retain some thread of continuity for the present and facilitate a jump back in where I left off, I wondered if I could use my old avatar so people know who I am - what say you Colin is this feasible please?

All done.
Fortunately you hadn't deleted the old avatar and it was hosted here.

I looked up your old profile and copied the avatar link address.

I've just updated all of the avatars I've been sent.

However a couple of them didn't match user names. So if your avatar isn't up to date, please say.
