Sandy Denny - anniversary

A reminder that it's 29 years ago this evening since Sandy passed away . I'm wondering if anyone's thoughts have turned yet to how to mark the 30th anniversary...? I know a year sounds like a long time, but events take a lot of planning, especially if they involve people with busy schedules.

Re the 30th anniversary of Sandy's death - this is a good thought of Philip's.

I believe many of us on this board have a great love and respect for Sandy and her art - has anybody any ideas for some sort of commemoration? Not a miserablist or creepy one; I'm sure Sandy wouldn't have wanted that.

We could always hire the Half Moon - put on suitable music. Do you reckon Fotheringay 2 might be a possibility? We could then pay respects at Sandys grave in the afternoon, and move on to the Half Moon for the evening?

I was in the half moon in the mid 90's when Vikky Clayton did a sandy Denny night. Her 'thunder thighs' stance didn't go down too well with my girlfriend at the time
     Gerry was superb on percussion though. She asked for requests at the end, and i suggested, 'One way donkey ride' one of my all time fave sandy songs. How does that go? she said..    it then appeared on her compilation, 'It suits me well'  Ho-hum

That's certainly one way to go, Chris. Thanks. Sounds like a good opportunity for her fans to meet up (which we ought to do anyway, outside Cropredy). I was actually thinking in bigger terms, though. Some sort of tribute/commemorative concert at a London venue. Cecil Sharp House? Invite her musical friends and admirers. A charity event, maybe? Would need a hell of a lot of organising - that's why I mention it twelve months in advance. Maybe get the Mike Harding show to cover it...

Cecil Sharpe House doesn't hold many more than the Half Moon (200ish), and the 'Moon is a lot closer to the cemetary than CHH. Start smallish, and if it takes off, then you could always change venue at a later stage.

But as I say, I think chatting things through with some relevant musicians would be trhe first place to start - they may all feel against it, for their own reasons. Until you start talking, you don't discover....

Beth Nielsen Chapman made a wonderful suggestion last year, which was a Sandy tribute album made by a variety of female singers. So here's a development of that idea. The Friday Cropredy slot: an hour and a half of Sandy songs performed by a number of different singers: Beth herself, Chris While, Mary Black, Linda Thompson (if she'll do it), Vikki Clayton, Eliza Carthy, Norma Waterson, etc etc. All backed by an all star band.

I thought I'd read something about a benefit cd made of many rare tracks from multiple bands for Trevor and Sandy's daughter. She had just had twins and was to help them out. Anything come of this? I would love to help out and love to have rare tracks.

Does Trevor and Sandy's daughter play any music? Music should run strong in her vein's.

I don't think she does, although I did hear mention of her doing some DJ work.  Chris B would know better.

Georgia's taste certainly isn't in the folk or folk-rock vein....
That Cd got released & I have a copy. Been sold out for ages though - perhaps someone can remind me which one of 1000s that I have, is it?

I'm sure Fairport wouldn't mind. We could sell them on the (I think that this is right) St Catherine's Hospice stall, they sell CD's and wot not. I got a copy of Fairport Songbook 2 there last year.
