Performances on Top of the Pops were generally mimed, though I believe artists were supposed to do this to a specially recorded a special TOTP version rather than the original, (though I gather this rule wasn't always strictly adhered to by some artists).

I see, Rich - thank you ;-)

This particular TOTP-version seems to be of a somewhat later date,
as the text sections contain info about Ralph's children TV career
in the early and mid 80's. Since the title is "TOTP2", I assume it's
some kind of nostalgia series about the original TOTP-hits ?

Any idea when this was first broadcast ?  (TOTP2)

Each TOTP2 programme is indeed a recent selection of individual songs cut from the original weekly "Top of the Pops" shows.

The clip in question was probably broadcast (with the explanatory text overlaid) a couple of years ago. The original "Top of the Pops" recording would have been when Streets was high in the UK music chart.

My original post was tongue-in-cheek. I Knew it was mimed, just amazed that they would include instruments and backing that was clearly not part of the performance.

Thank you, Steve  Cool

It was also fun to notice how slim Ralph was back then -
and then those amazing sideburns - hehe.
( wondering if his children and grand children will tease him,
if they come across this one ... ).

Well, I did gather that much *LOL*  - "tongue-in-cheek" -
my reply was as well, as you could probably tell.

Yes, you are right - the "obligatory" dancing also looked a bit out of place, didn't it ?  Roll Eyes

Another SoL on You Tube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQTLM-2nyiA indicates it's from Top of the Pops, although it has arte in top right hand corner.

Hello Master Leighton - long time, no see  Cool

Great stuff - and a very rare version, I believe.  Shocked
Thanks a lot for alerting us - I had just about given
up all hope about any more old Ralph clips suddenly
surfacing.

Would you be interested in having it as a file ?

I know a couple of people or three who will be willing to kiss
my feet to have this rarity  Grin - right, Joanna ?  *LOL*

( NO, you do NOT have to do that, Leighton ! Roll Eyes  -
Your efforts with the "Tickle of the Tum" clips last year
bought you a lot of good will here Wink )

Henrik

PS. So does that mean it's not art(e) ?

Hiya Henrik,

Been a bit busy, married off a daughter, my son has taken 16 weeks off work to go round the world (thank godness he returned safe and sound). AND I have a new boss in work.

But, my son has done the business with the clip and has put it on my computer, may thanks for your kind offer though.

I'll try and keep up to date with the board as much as I can.

'nuff said.

(sorry I've been watch too much Spiderman)

Nice one, Naomi  Wink - good to see you back as well.

Orbit Downloader seems to be working correctly again
in case you haven't noticed. You may need to download
the latest version.

Did Carl ever manage to transfer that VCR-tape to PC btw. ?
