Now I know my good friend and complete genius Henrik gave me a ripping good programme (geddit? Roll Eyes ) for downloading good YouTube clips but I can't use my old PC any more.... Sad  and have lost a lot of info.....  So am wondering what the best free, safe software would be advisable.  Thoughts......?

If you can, use Firefox, then use this add-on https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3590

Hello Maj  Cool

I think you mean "Orbit Downloader", Maj - great program, also works with Firefox,
if you mark it up in the settings.

When it's runnning, you can have a clickable sign saying "GetIt" to pop up,
as you move your mouse cursor over a video ( or audio ... ) at many such
sites - and then it just takes 2 clicks to download. Can't be much easier than that -
best program I have seen in this genre.

There has been some trouble with it lately ( where you needed to manually have a subprogram
called Grab++ do the hard work) , since YT and others constantly try to prevent such programmes
from working on their sites, but it seems to be fixed in the latest versions.

On YT the format is ".flv" ( flash video ), so you will need to download a great free all round player
like SMplayer ( I can really recommend it- it will play almost anything you throw at it - including
Real Media/ Audio  (.rm / .ra ) and Quick Time (.mov) Roll Eyes - + adjust for Sound-Image sync errors ) -
OR download and install a multi codec package like "k-lite codec (standard) ", which will enable
your standard Windows Media Player to play a lot of such formats - even many obscure ones.

Enjoy ;-)

Henrik

PS. Sorry to hear about your poor PC - think you should let someone have a look at it.

Cheers Henrik.

I have a superb new laptop for doing my official design work for business as well as for playing around  Roll Eyes Grin

I now have broadband too  Grin Grin Grin

Consequently I don't use my old PC, but ever since I bought my original mp4 player and downloaded the software windows media player has not worked.  You may remember our "chats" via msn messenger about that.  So I am very wary about downloading anything to the laptop as I cannot trash it. Shocked

Grateful for your advice here and will give it some thought........

Sorry everyone, but I've removed the posts and link referring to the Big Train YouTube clip. We've already discussed this one.
