If you go to youtube and search Fairport Convention 1970, you'll find some recently
added clips, you'll find Sloth, Journeyman's Grace, Dirty Linen and Sir B.  Great stuff!

Oh my goodness!!  I've just watched the Journeyman's Grace clip!!  It's astounding.  Really great quality (even if the cameraman does seem to aim his camera in aseemingly almost random manner) - is this from a commercial release?  Can we buy it?

RT sings the second verse!!  Swarb has a ridiculous beard!!  What more could you want?  Knocks the Angel Delight and official BBC versions into a cocked hat.

I'm off to watch Sloth.....

This is fantastic.  Did I say it was fantastic?

I will go search for this. Is it the maidstone show? If I could find a live version of Lord Marlborough on youtube, I will die a happy man.  Smiley

Amazing stuff....just when you think there can't be anything left in the cupboards, this little lot shows up Grin

Sloth is very inspiring- no noodling (unlike most of the versions in more recent years), just great intense, ensemble playing. I can only hope for something similar at Cropredy this year!

Dave Mattacks plays a blinder here as do the whole band....There have been several fine Fairport line-ups over the years, but I reckon the chemistry between these five players was pretty special (Richard and Swarb in particular)...witness Swarb's Full House reunion on his Smiddyburn album. Looking forward to sparks flying in August! Cheesy

No, it is not the maidstone stuff, which is why I figured it needed brought to people's attention.  I too would be very interested in purchasing a DVD of this material if it is commercially available. If anyone does have any more info on where this came from prior to showing up on youtube, I'd love to know.

On a bit of jesting note, if they miss putting "never saw Lord Marlborough on youtube, and thus, died an unhappy man" on your tombstone (if you never do manage to see such performance) they will be missing an obvious bet,

This is seriously good. The performances are flawless, and the sound quality excellent. I can't believe I haven't heard of/seen these before. It's recorded at about the same time I first saw Fairport, and I'd love a DVD if anyone knows of its existence. It's MUCH better than the Maidstone DVD.

What´s more to say? Amazing!
While watching JG I was suddenly overwhelmed with feelings: this is what made me "fall for" the band at the beginning, although only in recorded form. 1970 I was still 4 years away from enjoying the  band live

I've been fascinated this weekend by these clips on Youtube, dirty linen, patrick spens, now be thankful.  I have watched them  over and over.

Being a newcomer to Fairport  (1998.)  I don't know a great deal about other Fairport line ups and watching this line up I have been utterly fascinated and awestruck. Dave Swarbrick, his voice is just something else and his presence?  I just don't know how to describe him??

The overall sound of this line up is so vibrant and energetic   I was 8 when all this was going on.  I feel I missed out on something very very special.
