Fairport founders on BBC 6 Music

Ashley Hutchings will be joined by fellow Fairport founders Simon Nicol and Richard Thompson to discuss the band's forty-year history, Liege & Lief, and the Cropredy festival on Tom Robinson's BBC 6 Music radio programme on Friday 27 July between 7.30pm and 9pm.

The programme will also showcase Richard's new CD, Sweet Warrior, including a live performance from the album. The show goes out on digital radio and is also available live online. Click for more information about Tom Robinson on BBC 6 Music.

Thanks for letting us know about that. Enjoyed RT's acoustic numbers and good to hear the three of them talking about L&L at the end.

Nice bit after one of RT's songs where Tom Robinson was obviously blown away by Richard's playing.

 Huh Cool

Could have listened to them nattering for hours. They came across well and RT was as impressive as always.

Thanks for telling us about this. RT sounded genuinely surprised about the L&L "deluxe" edition - obviously the first he'd heard of it. I'm glad I stuck with the channel for the next hour as well - Bob Dylan's Theme Time Radio Hour - as His Bobness included Sandy singing "Pretty Polly".

Since "Listen Again" seems broken, did anyone record this?

Ok, I'm recording it now, but it'll take awhile. The whole show is 2 hrs long and I don't want to skip any, in case I miss any chat. Sorry that you'll get all the **** in the middle, but it's worth the listen. The RT session tracks are great.

Some of these other tracks (ie stuff that isn't RT or FC) are trully awful. Sorry, there's some hip hop and rap in here

I did the same thing. I will record the whole thing later when I'm away from the keyboard and edit out the "horrid" bits. Wink

While we're on the subject of BBC radio...

Mike Harding show, Radio 2, 8 August, is promising a "Fairport Convention mini-feature".

And also on the subject of Radio 2.  I'm told that the BBC will no longer sponsor Cambridge Music Festival after this weekend.

I recorded it on digibox, as unable to listen at the time. I've recorded TV programmes before and then burned them on to a DVD. Therefore I suppose I could record the broadcast on to a DVD. Seems a bit weird though, recording audio on to a DVD not a CD - or am I just being ignorant?
