Peggy and PJ

Last night at Faversham turned out to be one of those very rare occasions that I was very glad to attend.

We arrived at the Folk Club in good time only to be met by the lady in charge who explained that unfortunately Peggy would not be playing as he was unwell, but that Chris Leslie would be deputizing for him.  Of course we were very upset to hear of Peggy being unwell and that we would not be seeing him, but to look at the situation positively, we would be seeing Chris and PJ!

I spotted Chris and PJ in the small lounge room hastily constructing a set list,  so went in to say hello.  They explained that Peggy was suffering from an ear infection and had been advised by the Dr to rest for a few days.

The gig was introduced by PJ who explained how he last deputized for FC when Chris was sick, and how pleased at the time that he was!  He then deputized for Fairport Acoustic a few weeks ago, but now the table was turned!!

The set list was as follows

1  Everything’s made in China.
2  Bread and Circuses.      Chris played the violin on this and in my opinion this tune really lends itself to the violin, fantastic stuff!
3  Spring Song.
4  Little Johnny England.
5  Rosie.      Chris introduced this by saying ‘PJ and I know many versions of this song and you may get to hear them all’!
6  40 Years On
7  Bushes and Briers
8  Lark in the Morning

Chris and PJ really compliment each other extremely well, Chris’s fiddle playing bringing a new depth to some of the songs, and they looked as though they were really enjoying themselves.  As a one off show we felt really privileged to be there, but hope we can catch Peggy with PJ another time and he feels better soon.

We still have tickets available for the PJ and Peggy gig at Ely Folk Club next Wednesday.

Ooohhhh....PJ ....'Mooning at my window'...Good grief, I had forgotten how good that song is !!!!  Would have loved to see that gig PJ and Chris ..wow !!!!  However, hope the 'Peggster' gets better soon.

Went to see the chaps last night at Ely Folk Club and they were excellent. But first, I'll start with the support - Rosie Eade. I think she's Cambridge born and bred, but not sure. Anyway, she was fantastic. A little trouble with guitar tuning, but lovely voice and I think she could go far.

After Rosie, Peggy and PJ graced the stage. Here's a set list (not in order and from memory, so it's probably not complete)

I love the mid-song banter between the chaps. The audience took a bit of 'waking up' and didn't really start getting into it until mid-way through the first half. I have to say, there were some of the longest song into's I've ever heard. I think one Peggy's was about 5 mins! We (Dad and I) took my ex-teacher (the one who got me into folk music) and her partner, who is more of a Yes fan and doesn't really like 'folk' music. They both loved last night, as did Dad and I. We got our CD's signed after the show. I could tell that Peggy's ear still hasn't quite got better, as he signed the CD to Holly!   Anyway, one of the best night's entertainment I've been to, so if you have a chance to go, do! Hopefully, Ruth (who posted above and semi-organiser of the club) will post a review, because she can do them a lot better than I can!
