How Can You Dance With Two Left Feet?

« Reply #20 on: December 20, 2007, 07:26:54 PM »

Plenty of 'snot talk' at the LBT Huddersfield on Tuesday night. Cheesy
See if I can pick out some highlights.

The gig received a great review in the 'Huddersfield Examiner' last night (Wed.) reflecting most of the points made by Katy's Mum.The readings were well thought out and a pleasant bonus from Ashley when he dipped into Harry Pearson's 'Racing Pigs and Giant Marrows'

First time I had seen both Kellie While and Simon Care and they were excellent.Simon Nicol's guitar contributions were subtle and  impressive considering the variety of material.Vocally strong along side Ashley who was still battling flu.

The Examiner stated that this was the seventh year of the show and a 'great way to kickstart Christmas'.

Completely agree.

Here is the review from the Huddersfield Examiner by Peter Barrow.  Any relation Bob?

Sorry for the extra long address - I don't know how to do that thing where you just put 'here'.

Peter Barrow is obviously a big fan of "Mr Fairport Convention":
Nicol was as ever lilting and lyrical and is one of the best folk guitarists around – ever.

Nice article. Cool
I must say that I`m a bit disappointed with the repackaging of live Albion material. Being the happy owner of the "BBC live in concert" CD, 6 new tracks is not enough to go out and get this new but old  Grin live offering. Sad

An Albion Christmas was on the CD player this afternoon.  At track 3, Gloucestershire Wassail, daughter said, "I could listen to that man sing forever..."  Another big fan of Mr Fairport Convention. Cheesy

I'm not sure that hip action is advisable for Ashley, for the not so young there must be a danger of permanent damage Wink

But he does ...

See here!

(Or were you being the ironic man, Jim?)

And the judges comments are:

Bruno:  They sparkled and shimmied like the flames on a mince pie after you have set light to it on Christmas day.

Len:  You have to remember that these guys haven't had much time to practice so on that basis I say A JOB WELL DONE.  Maybe the heel leads could have been a bit better but overall a good effort.

Arlene:  Fun, frivolous, fantastic!  I'd be delighted to find the four of them in my Christmas stocking any year.

Craig:  Frankly, I thought that was awful - their timing was atrocious and the footwork was sloppy!  (Cue boos from the audience.)

Caught up with the Albion Show at the Phoenix, Leicester on the Saturday before Christmas.

Simon N & Ashley both had colds but coped manfully - Kelly W was wonderful, especially in Alan Hull's "Winter Song" - and Mr Care didn't smash the bacca pipes. Blimey, how does he do that stuff?

Ashley had to nag the audience to join in though. Blooming typical Leicester. Could have done with a few more lushes ladies & gents from this parish. I got gently told off for doing a Dave Mattacks with my feet by the teacher type in front - Happy New Year madam I'm sure, sorry about that, must have been the Castle Rock winter ale.

Anybody going to the Red Lion (Brum) in Jan to see the Lark Rise show?
