Albion Christmas Band 2007

Caught up with the Albion Show at the Phoenix, Leicester on the Saturday before Christmas.

Ashley had to nag the audience to join in though. Blooming typical Leicester.

I went to a few gigs at the Phoenix when I lived there...Waterson Carthy and the like..maybe even the Albions I think...and lack of participation appears to be part of the core belief system for the audience there...not one of my favourite venues, although they used to do decent lunches for when I was dashing out from DMU where I worked at the time....

First band I ever saw live (off my own back, dad was a jazz dude so got dragged to jazz gigs prior to this) were the Albions, at The Phoenix, very early 80s, I was about 13/14, I took my childhood sweetheart along  I seem to recall people joining in but it was a looong time ago...

Kelly W was wonderful, especially in Alan Hull's "Winter Song"

Did they leave out a verse (verse 3, if I remember correctly) every night, or was it just a mistake the night I saw them?

Line and length, line and length. A lack of concentration on Simon's part there. He had it all to play for but, positionally, he was all over the place. He'll be disappointed with that.

Perhaps as hosts of the 2012 Olympics we'll be allowed to introduce a couple of our own events and what could be better than concertina tossing? There's even a chance for multiple medals as the British team scoops up the anglo, english and duet concertina tosses.

Having said that, the weight and shape of the 5 string banjo makes it a much better candidate for throwing as a skilled practitioner can get one into skip from over 20 metres away
