hello everyone - this my first post.

I first saw fairport in 85/86? in Cardiff. My memory is poor but as far as I recall the Fairport I saw consisted of Simon Nichol, Dave Pegg, Dave Mattocks, and Swarb. Is my memory correct? My wife who also went says they were a five piece with Rick Saunders!

Can anyone help?

Hi Banger, and welcome.
I think I was at the same gig [St. David's Hall?]
I remember Swarb's glass falling off the speaker next to him. He just looked down and laughed, and carried on playing.
I don't remember Ric being there?

Welcome Banger  Cheesy

Dunno about the line-up, but you might want to check your spelling. Wink

That'd be NICOL and SANDERS and MATTACKS.  Grin

Only teasing. Welcome again.

Hi frogcrutches and gower flower.

Your right it was at St Davids Hall. I was a student back then which would explain the problems with my spelling!! I did go to see them a year or so later again at St Davids Hall - I think Rick was with them then.

The last tour with the 4 piece lineup was the US tour in 85 I think, so I think there were a few dates prior to that...if my memory serves me correctly DM did come in for Bruce on that....(so DM, Pegg, Nicol, Swarb)...the first tour with the 5 piece lineup (DM, Nicol, Pegg, Ric, Maart) was the Spring 86 tour..  I think that is right anyway...

Thanks for clarifying this for me  Grin and my wife  Embarrassed

In hindsight what worries me is that over the last 22 years I have seen the band countless times bought numerous of their albums and have read loads of stuff about them but have failed to register how to spell the names of the band!!. Luckily Richard Thomson wasn't playing in 85 otherwise I would have got his name wrong! Wink

You mean you'd have forgotten the 'p' in his surname?!

No, he was having a joke about the extra, unnecessary 'h' that he'd included  Wink

Are any of you guys teachers?

You'll be telling me next that I shouldn't use a preposition to end a sentence with.  And that I shouldn't start a sentence with a conjunction. Cheesy

There is no rule in the English language that says you can't end a sentence with a preposition. That "rule" was invented by a minister in the 1800s who felt that since Latin did have such a rule, English should as well. As your own Winston Churchill is rumored to have said, "That is something up with which I will not put."

But surely the rumour had a "u"?

Alright everyone. How about we give a little bit more honour and respect to Banger for what was after all his first venture onto the board?

In other words, GET BACK ON TOPIC!

Thank you

Thanks Nick & Barry

Do I take all this in a good spirit - Yes I do

Do I think MarkC should try and get out and  about a little more often - Yes I do

Finally, if I've spelt anything incorrectly or if I've made any grammatical errors in this post - you don't have to correct me because I really don't care. Wink
