I'm going through a bit of a Rising For The Moon phase at the moment and as such have just bought Before The Moon and am contemplating getting Who Knows.I'd be really grateful if someone could please help with a couple of queries I have about these recordings. The notes to BTM suggest this 2 CD set was recorded on one night in Denver in 1974 for radio. If this is the case,I'd be grateful if someone could please tell me which set is which. On the first CD Sandy introduces Down In The Flood by stating that the band have only played one song twice tonight, suggesting that this is the second set. However,on CD2 Trevor tries to get some folks dancing for Dirty Linen whilst acknowledging that it's early in the set but late at night-suggesting THIS set is the later one(unless it IS the first set but started at midnight or something, which is unlikely). Turning to Who Knows,I see it includes Stranger To Himself followed by a lengthy Sloth.I'd be grateful if anyone could please confirm whether this recording is the same one that appears on CD 4 of Unconventional. The timings look pretty close and although the notes to Unconventional don't date this, one would assume its from 1975,as is the Who Knows recording.Generally, any other specifics with regard to these recordings would be much appreciated. Is there a (near to)definitive gig and set list resource anywhere,a la Floyd's In The Flesh book? I guess not cos, unlike the Floyd, FC weren't playing virtually the same set for years on end but it'd be nice to think such a thing might exist somewhere.Peggy??

I too think the Stranger to Himself/Sloth medley is the same as on Unconventional, but I don't think I've seen it confirmed as such in print anywhere.

I would suspect that the way it is listed in the notes is the set order for that night, regardless of what is said on the recording. Keep in mind the sound quality as well, which Peggy alludes to in the notes. I have seen Fairport many times in clubs in the States, more than once staying for both sets, and of course, there will be songs performed twice. After playing two set nights a couple of times a week, some confusion must arise as well, as to what has been played or not (unless FC were doing the exact set list every night, which we know is not something they do!). I just think, forget what they're saying on stage!

The Stranger-Sloth from WHO KNOWS? is the same one on UNCONVENTIONAL. Superb!
Definitely worth your time to have it, Neil - unless you insist on sound board quality.

Thor-Rune, how about a special TAW CD-single: Sloth from Oslo-75? We are a few Sloth-fanatics who will queue up to buy a copy....
