Singing with Fairport

Hi Swarb
During the period after Sandy first left Fairport, you found yourself becoming the group's lead singer - a role you handled superbly by the way - was it very difficult for you to adjust to taking more of a back seat vocally after Sandy rejoined the group for her second stint? Or were you just glad to be sharing a stage with her again?
And on the topic of singing - what's the latest on the possibility of you being able to sing again in the future? Dare we hope?
Lots of love,
Jules

no I never had any difficulty sitting anywhere in the band and never considered myself a singer anyway in those days.i learnt to sing though and always enjoyed it. Relaxing and learning how to swing and place the consonants in a word has a lot to do with it.classic rockers when they sing place the consonant smack on the beat if you listen, not as easy to do as it sounds! but shifting the beat around and toying with the melody line is all part of the singers tool kit and its great fun.I had thought recently that there was a good chance that i might be able to sing again, but having just seen my consultant I dont think the prognosis is a good one.I am waiting to have tests inc a scan and I could be proved wrong.I think it would prob involve an operation though and thats a bit tricky for a transplantee takeing into consideration the pills and anti rejection stuff I am filled with. I havent as yet given up completely although if I were to I would probably be more able to accept it swarb

I'm so sorry that the latest news isn't more optimistic, but hey - if you haven't given up hope yet then neither have I!
And thanks for such an interesting reply about singing. I think you may well have just taught me something about singing there.
