I've just joined - so I don't want to appear too sycophantic here.

But I do actually like Gottle o' Geer - in a sort of 'it's not really Fairport but it's still fun' sort of way.

I'd just like to ask what are your memories of that era and could that 6 piece band with Roger Burridge, Bob Brady & Dan ar Bras have gone onto greater things had the timing been different?

I dont think so, it was a stopgap really although we didnt realise that at the time. the record was conceived as my solo album, actually i wanted it to be a duo album with peggy, when island records realised that they were being presented with my solo album they refused to release it under my name thinking that a fairport album would sell more so it was released as a fairport album. the band that dave pegg and i had gathered together to keep fairport going was faced with gottle as the latest album to promote and some trax were dubbed to give them a place on it. I like the album too, but then i never think of it as a fairport album because it isnt. all this is a long time ago and thats about as clear as i can be  swarb

Cheers, Swarb

Never got to see that line up in it's short lifespan. I've heard a few tracks on the various boxed sets but I would love to see an archive live recording if one existed. I believe that line up did Sloth, would love to hear what they did with that
