RT will perform at the RFH on Saturday 24th. May. Two days later on Monday 26th. Paul Brady will appear at the same venue. tickets go on sale for both gigs on Wednesday 20th Feb for SouthBank members, then to the general public 24 hours later http://www.southbankcentre.co.uk |

Go see him. His guitar style is so incredible it sounds like there is at least one other guitarist playing with him. He is able to play lead lines that the rest of us can only dream of playing, but with his other numerous fingers on his right hand he manages to play a wholly independent rhythm and bass line at the same time. You will be very pleasantly surprised. |

Thanks. I have seen him with bands, but sometimes drift away during long acoustic sets, and the RFH is not the ideal place to build up an atmosphere. Has anybody seen him solo lately? Does he play acoustic only? Anything new or unexpected? The date mentioned is not on Beesweb or on the RFH website.

I saw him at a festival in Nuremberg last summer and he was ... God. My friend Momo saw him for the first time and we stood in the front row (where else?). The second song was "Crawl back" ( I think) and Momo was looking all over the stage. I asked her: "What are you looking for?" She said: "There must be a second guitarist somewhere behind the curtain. Nobody can play like that." Needless to say that she ordered some Cd's on Amazon the next morning |

I saw him 18 mths ago. I was somewhat of a newby and had no idea what to expect besides Beeswing and 1952 VBL. I was certainly not disappointed, and my wife, who was on the fence where he was concerned, became a convert. Does he play acoustic only? He plays acoustic only (amazing to hear Shoot Out the Lights that way). Anything new or unexpected? I'm not sure what would be new or unexpected for you. How about an acoustic Sloth? Or a brilliant romp through Matty Groves? Or William O'Wimsbury? Maybe he'll do Dear Janet Jackson or I Agree With Pat Metheny. Or maybe he'll try out some new material (he played Poppy Red, Dad's Gonna Kill Me, Johnny's Far Away and The Sunset Song at the show I attended ... months before the release of the cd). Go get the Watching the Dark or ...Life and Music... box sets which have many examples of his acoustic shows. |

While I enjoy it, Small Town Romance (recorded circa 1981-1982?) is really from a different era, before he developed his truly insane acoustic guitar skills. It's also evident that some of the tunes were not rehearsed extensively, as he hadn't worked out guitar parts at anywhere near the level of intricacy he demonstrates today. Naturally, Small Town Romance is easy to find in shops and online, whereas Celtscmerz is not.

I was in the audience for some of it! i thinkyou are right that RT had Small town pulled but that was a fair few years ago and i think he relented because it re-appeared iin the shops a few years later. as to its current availability, i have no idea if its been deleted or not, but both are worth getting hold of |

As I understand it. it is out of print again, once more at RT's request. I think the re-release was permitted but only for a limited period of time. |

Last time I looked, Waterloo Records in Austin, Texas had a brand-new shrinkwrapped copy of Small Town Romance sitting forlornly in the RT section, priced about $14 American.
