I listened to Fairport perform 'Seventeen Come Sunday' on youtube, and wanted to know if it was recorded for an album

There's an excellent live version in the Cropredy Capers box.

It was recorded for Ken Russell's rather strange documentary about folk music. The studio version is tagged on to the end of The Cropredy Box, which is the official album of the 1997 (30th Anniversary) festival.
I think it is a great track but I remember the band saying at the time that it was a song that Ken Russell himself asked them to record but of a type of fol de rol English folk that they had always previously tried to avoid.

Was that documentary ever shown? I was there at Cropredy when they filmed them playing it for the documentary but then never heard any more about it. I always imagined it would be rather odd if Ken Russell was involved...

It was and I taped it. No idea where the tape is now. It may surface if i ever sort out the garage properly.
The whole experience was a little surreal with the band doing it before their shift and wondering which members of the band would be wrestling naked.

Thank you! Is it worth buying? Coz that's one that I've always been interested in.

It is still available, right? It's the box I'd really like to get as well. Will it be available this year?

I think I said that earlier.
Looks pretty damn good!
And indeed it is. For me that album is the perfect overview of the band's career with some cracking performances. A great starting place for beginners too.

It's worth 9 quid just to have the very best version of 'Rain' ever...still one of my favourite Cropredy performances ever (I was as high as a kite at the time, and it was a delight to realise it sounded as good in 'reality' as it did in my addled brain on the field)....I do hope DAB comes back to Cropredy again soon....
