According to this months Classic Rock mag, Matty G has been voted the 28th best British song of all time!! Way ahead of other songs like 'Ferry Cross the Mersey', 'Merry Christmas Everybody'. 'Fog on the Tyne is at No 53'.
Number 1 is 'Penny Lane'/'Strawberry Fields Forever' (not supprising). No 2 is 'The Village Green Preservation Society' which most people listening to radio 2 will think it was written by Kate Ruseby, but of course it was written by Ray Davies in 1968.

Too many to list, get the mag it's extremely good this month! Large write up on Tull ect ect and the best UK bands by location..............

Yeah.Apparently the range of influences on Third sound more like Portishead have been listening to Fairport this time around rather than someone more obvious like Massive Attack.I haven't heard the album yet and I wouldn't imagine one would be able to spot a direct "influence" as such but if it's a matter of feel and overall vibe then it gets my vote! |

It's certainly very mellow and somewhat ethereal...and I'm pretty sure one of the reviews I read actually mentioned Fairport in it... |

I've heard it, but it doesn't sound in the slightest like Fairport Convention.Quite a bit like Goldfrapp in places. |
