I have never been able to work out the lyrics to the chorus of The Hexhamshire Lass. I don't think I can be alone as even the lyric sheet on the CD reissue states:
Off with the....... and over the moss and the mire.
So what's the missing bit?

It's always sounded like Sadie Sight to me. But it can't be...

General web consensus seems to be:
Off to the sadie skey and over the moss and the mire I want to see my lass who lives in hexhamshire Her father loves her well, her mother loves her dearer I love her better than them both but, man, I can't get near her.

Maart's songbook has:-
Off to the Sadie Skye and over the moss and the mire.

Chris refered to it as 'A tale from a place called the Saide Syke' on the XXXV live DVD.

Well in the north east a syke is a stream (or sometimes a dyke or gully), so Saide Syke was probably the Saide stream.

Typo alert. It is Syke in Maart's book. Paul

I think they got the song off Bob Davenport by the way.

Yes. Chris also mentions him on the DVD.
