I wasn't sure if this belonged here or in iActive. Oh well, I'm sure it will be moved if needed ... Anyways, My wife and I are still flying high after the 4 days we spent in Rhode Island and New Bedford, MA. What a great weekend! The highlight of course were the two days we spent hanging out with Peggy, Ellen and PJ on the Exuberant. Linc and his wife Barbara laid out a great spread and spared no effort to make sure we had the best vacation ever. Not only were we treated to two private concerts from the boys (one of which occurred on the boat while we were underway ... what fun!), but Peggy, Ellen and PJ made sure we were treated like part of their family. I can't express how much fun we had hanging out with these guys. And it didn't stop on Fri. We somehow kept bumping into them in the pub during the festival itself, and I had the pleasure of meeting Gareth Turner, who was very friendly and was also very well-received wherever we saw him play. One of the highlights of the festival for me was a workshop where PJ and Gareth teamed up with violinist Savannah Lack, who was touring with the Australian group Women in Docs (they were super as well) and played some LJE songs most of which were obviously new to her. Well, it was fascinating to watch her listen to a couple bars of each song, start fingering her violin, and all of a sudden start joining in with some amazing ornamentation (she's pretty easy on the eyes as well .. oops, Glenna's not reading over my shoulder is she ... ). All I can say is that if she ever moves to England, Guy might want to spend some more time with the band [attachment deleted by admin]

Here's a nice shot of a sailing vessel (would have been nicer if I had gotten the camera properly leveled ...), followed by a shot of Gareth and an obscured Peggy (sorry ... )

The New Bedford Summerfest was a marvelous opportunity for Peggy, PJ and Gareth (Turner that is, not Williams) -- and many others -- to interact in numerous collaborative combinations with musicians from all over. It was splendid to have Peggy back in the U.S., so obviously focussed and enjoying himself musically. In every ensemble these three blended in seamlessly and lent subtle but identifiable support. IMO, travelling musical stars don't just drop in to make their appearance and leave, but rather stick around to enhance the whole -- and they did.
After having seen him play bass and mandolin for over 20 years, I was unaware until last weekend that Peggy is a very talented acoustic guitarist as well. And during the grand finale someone finally broke down and handed the man an electric bass.
I hope this will not be the last visit -- the audiences loved it all!

I'd love to get a private gig from the 2 of them. I saw them at The Hat Factory in Luton last October, there were only about 10 of us in the audience. It was so friendly.

Only 10?? Those people in Luton missed a fine show I would say. That's very close to what we had on the first day (there were only 4 of us on the second) but the boat was full.
