Hi all
Time to introduce myself
My name is Es and I live in Wellingborough, although I come from Banbury and lived in Farnborough just up the road from Cropredy for quite a while
Why did I join Talkawhile, good question. I recently joined another list and there was mention of TAW, I did some searching and here I am. And being a toxophilist its always good to add another string to the proverbial bow
As far as Cropredy and Fairport are concerned. I have fallen out of both the Brasenose and Red Lion many times in my youth and been a fan of FC since the very early 70's. Although through family and work commitments have not been to the festival for quite a few years now (shame on me!)
What kind of music do I like? well basically everything that is not played on Radio O*e. I am an ex-muso having played clarinet and flute in orchestras, clarinet and sax in jazz and irish show bands before getting into folk music playing squeezy things and, if I can stay off the smokes long enough, blowy things. Although its been a long time since I played
Last gig was FC on winter tour
Last CD Mother of all Morris
And tonight Sir Robert I will not be singing at all as we want decent weather for Cropredy
As a PS I am going to Cropredy this year after many many years and really looking forward to it. I have also agreed, via the other list, to have a go at playing for the Scratch Morris, Oh well in at the deep end again!
Thats it for me at the moment although I think I will be back

Thanks for the warm welcome. In answer to your questions.....
1. My name is Mick and I live in Windsor (near the Queen)
2. I have read postings on the Talkawhile site for a few years, thought it was time to join.
3. I have had a special relationship with Fairport since Unhalfbricking / What We Did On Our Holidays and have followed the band as a band and as individuals since. I have always tried to see them a couple of times a year and get to Cropredy whenever possible.
4. I obviously like folk music! but also Rock, Metal and some Jazz.
5. Last gig was Leonard Cohen (a legend) before that Iron Maiden (more legends)
6. Last CD was Black Cloud & Silver Linings by Dream Theater
7. Tonight Sir Robert I am Going to be Show of Hands and sing my all time favourite "Cousin Jack".
Now you know all about me......(maybe not all!)

I've known of FC forever and had the privilege of playing in a band the very first time Fairport played in a field in Cropredy, in fact we were the first band on that Saturday afternoon 30 years ago, we were called ' Bag o'nails' and really just got together to play that once. Then later the boys put together Captain Coco's and I did the calling in that (including Broughton Castle) imagine trying to organise a dance infront of the stage today! Happy memories! I wonder how many of your members were at that first in a field one?
If I go back to the questions I think I might lose this again so I'm sending it now...I was listening to Four Men and a Dog and Saltfish Forty today and I love Chris While most of all.
Love Talkawhile and the care you've given me so I could sort this, ta.
I wonder if you got the photo?

what made me join
the folk talk about cropredy
what do i know about fairport
i know thay have had a strong connection with cropedy for meny years with some even liveing there
what music do i like
this is a easy one theres none i dont like
last gig i went to
a local group called chuckle truck thay were brill will go to see tham again
last cd bought
was from an open mic session from a guy called name in brackets if you ever hear about him go to see him he is well worth it
and tonight sir robert i am going to be my favourite singer
mark radcliffe yes him from radio 2 best known from the family mahones
and the song is
lanbadreg.
l i went to my frist fairport/cropredy in about 1976 it was just an evening event then

Hi great to find this site, my name is Buddy I am a musician and play with a duo called Sandwitch formed in Germany in 1988 and is now been in existence in the present line up of myself Buddy Freebury and Andrea Hallier (now also Freebury) since 1997 We moved to Parcllyn Cardigan in West Wales from Germany in March 2006. Hi Zoe and thanks for the welcome. Witches from Wales indeed  So let me tell everyone a little about the name Sandwitch (for those who were not at Cropredy in 2001 or didn't read the programme. In Germany, Back in 1988 I formed the duo with a previous musical partner and during a a trip to south Germany we were travelling with a lady in a car and we got talking about England (me being English) She told us that on her first visit to England she saw signs outside shops advertising Sandwiches which she interpreted in German as being Sandhexen Hexen being the German for Witches well at the time we found this amusing but as we had no name for the duo at the time we found this very suitable and has been in existence ever since. Andrea Joined in 1997 and we have been together ever since (now married since 2005) Sometimes the name has been a curse as we have often been asked if we really are witches (well there are a lot about) and we do have a tendency to look for traditional songs about witches and have even written several ourselves. Well are we Witches ?..... now that would be telling  Buddy |
