Who are you and where are you from?
I am just Lubiloo for now, but I might tell more given time-I am a woman in my prime and I am from Hereford.
2.   What made you join Talkawhile?
I love Richard Thompson/FC/Cropredy Been reading TAW for ages.
3.   What do you know of Fairport Convention and/or Cropredy if anything?
Introduced to  Fairport & RT in the early 1990s & I first saw Fairport in 1997 & RT  in 1998 - & many times since. Been to twelve Cropredys.A mere novice compared with many here.
4.   What kind of music do you like?
Many types - especially folk & rock but have wide range of tastes.
5.   What was the last gig/festival/recital/concert that you attended?  What was it like?
Cropredy 09. Amazing!! Before that, David Garrett, virtuoso German violinist at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham-I took my Mum really, but found him very entertaining & gorgeous-he covered a wide range of genres.
6.   What was the last CD that you bought?  Would you recommend it? Have just ordered a copy of I want to see the Bright Lights tonight by RT & LT as life's twists & turns mean I am building up my cd collection anew.
7.   Complete the following
“Tonight, Sir Robert, I am going to be too predictable if I say Linda Thompson or Sandy Denny"

Bud did travel to the festival this year but i was a bit windy for him. Steve who looks after them is attempting to make them both light up next year so that should be great So as we say at Cropredy if you get lost in the field look into the sky for aliens and they will guide you  Smiley

My name is Julian (Fisher) and I do need a bit of guidance so any feedback would be appreciated by this very incompetent user of sites like this.

I'm from the north of South Yorkshire in between two Pennine towns, Stocksbridge (steel) and Penistone (sheep).  From a hamlet called Huthwaite just outside a small village called Thurgoland.  Too much info?

I've joined for two reasons.  I love folk music and want to exchange views and news.  (Currently enjoying a resurgence of interest in all Fairport with Sandy D.).  The other is a question which I'll come to later.

I've only seen Fairport live once - back in the 80s in Cambridge.  I've also seen Simon Nicol and Dave Swarbrick in a smokey room above a pub in London - again a long time ago.  My wife and I have good friends who go to Cropredy most years and are forever telling us to go too - we will one day!  I have been listening to Fairport records,CDs etc for longer than I care to remember.

Music I love - an eclectic taste really.  Folk of course with favs being Martin Carthy, Incredible String Band, Fairport and Planxty.  Also jazz, blues, classical, rock.  Anything good!

Went to see the counter tenor James Bowman over the summer - really impressive.  Go to a few ceilidhs but with a young kid (and another shortly to appear) am fairly anchored.

Bought 'U' by Incredible String Band but only for nostalgic reasons - not to many people's taste so I wouldn't recommend it.

Tonight, Sir Robert, I am going to be my all time favourite singer, Martin Carthy, and I will sing The Jolly Tinker.

Here's my question.  I heard a Northern Irish singer on the radio around 25 years ago.  (He may have been Scots but I don't think so.)  he sang two songs the tunes  of which i recall as though i heard them yesterday but their nmes i'm not sure of at all.  One was about A Frog and a ball it and various other creatures went to while the second was a love song about the month of June.  Who was the person i heard?  he had a sublime voice but no-one I've asked knows.

Final request.  Please respond in some way, even if it'sonly a couple of words, just to let this technophobe knowhe'sbeen heard!

Best wishes Sir Robert!

Julian

A very warm welcome to you, new friend.  I understand from our Meeter and Greeter, the lovely Jude, that you are a person of good taste, impeccable manners and an interest in some or all things Talkawhilish.  Excellent news!  Hoorah, hoorah.

My name is Sir Robert Peel.  I am a Global Moderator of this fine debating chamber and talking shop.  I am also an elder statesman of some influence, commanding considerable respect in those who don’t know me very well.

Put your favourite CD on the gramophone player, kick off your shoes and make yourself comfortable.
(Not that comfortable!  Shocked  Please cover yourself up by putting on the dressing gown and slippers provided.  Embarrassed)

Now - can I trouble you to answer a few questions, when you have the inclination, time and patience.  You can answer some, all or none of them, but we look forward to hearing from you soon.

1.   Who are you and where are you from?

2.   What made you join Talkawhile?

3.   What do you know of Fairport Convention and/or Cropredy if anything?

4.   What kind of music do you like?

5.   What was the last gig/festival/recital/concert that you attended?  What was it like?

6.   What was the last CD that you bought?  Would you recommend it?

7.   Complete the following sentence:
“Tonight, Sir Robert, I am going to be my all time favourite singer ……. (name of singer) and I will
sing:  ' ................................'   (name of song)

Thanks awfully.   Fez

Tommy Sands? Tommy Makem?

Sounds like one of the songs was "The Ugly Bug Ball", but I'm probably wrong there. Where's Greglin when you need 'im?

Hi Julian, welcome aboard.
1. Hmmm, I don't suppose it was this one ...
Quote
When the party was nice the party was bumpin'
yippy i oh
everybody havin' a ball
yippy i oh
well i think i hear the crazy frog jumping
yippy i oh
up and down and all over the wall
its the crazy frog now

who let the frog out?
bap bap bap bap bap
who let the frog out?
bap bap bap bap bap
who let the frog out?
bap bap bap bap bap
who let the frog out?
bap bap bap bap bap

 Grin
Could it be Frog Went a-Courtin'?

2. No idea, Lots of songs about love in June. Could you remember some lyrics?

"    In the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia
On the trail of the lonesome Pine

In the pale moonshine our hearts entwine
Where you carved your name and I carved mine
Oh, you - like the mountains are blue
Like the pine - I am lonesome for you

On a mountain in Virginia stands a lonesome Pine
Just below is the little cabin home of a little girl of mine
Her name is June and very, very soon she'll belong to me
For I know she's waiting there for me 'neath that lone Pine tree;" etc

?

Grin (silly mood has gripped me, I always see Laurel & Hardy sing this)

Perhaps if you describe his voice? Tenor?
