Ref query - Northern Ireland Radio 25 years ago ( and God help us still today) has a hankering for the past ( and appalling fourth rate C & W singers) - so a crooning chap then could have been from any of the previous 4 decades.
They also had a veritable flood of request programmes - songs from the shows and all that so could have been anythning - mind you, sounds a bit of Percy French perhaps?
Local guy doing well around that time was Peter Corry.
I will ask around when back this weekend - if you can give us a few more of the words ;twould help.

I mainly play classical and folk, and mostly listen to folk and rock/pop/indie type stuff, but I'll give absolutely anything a try 5. What was the last gig/festival/recital/concert that you attended? What was it like?Last recital was one at college that a couple of my friends played in, which was great Last "proper" thing though was Purbeck Folk Fest  I went with a couple of friends and we had SUCH a fantastic time, everyone was really friendly and the music was superb, high spots for me were Rosie Doonan, Sam Carter, Jim Moray and Uiscedwr, but I really enjoyed everyone we heard 6. What was the last CD that you bought? Would you recommend it?I haven't bought a real actual CD in a long time  but I think it was possibly a collection of Sibelius orchestral pieces, they're gorgeous. However I did download Sam Carter's album, Keepsakes, which I really like, not an absolute favourite but pretty good, I'd definately recommend it 7. Complete the following sentence:

I'm so sorry, I've only just seen this, so I didn't get a chance  but the gig was fantastic as always, though Anna wasn't on top form, apparently she was really worried about all the tour stuff. But still, it was great And the absolute best bit was seeing my percussionist friend watch Cormac... he looked rather like this > |

- Hello everyone, I'm Ruth from Stroud!
2. What made you join Talkawhile?
- Been reading the boards for a while, thought I'd like to join in.
3. What do you know of Fairport Convention and/or Cropredy if anything?
- Until recently I only owned two Fairport Convention albums - Nine and Full House - as I was convinced that this was the only incarnation of the band I liked, with vocals and fiddling by Dave Swarbrick.
Then I bought a couple of Folk compilation CDs and discovered the fantastic Simon Nicol and wonderful Chris Leslie - can you imagine how foolish I felt.
So I'm now on a quest to fill in all the (vast) gaps in my knowledge about Fairport Convention and all things folky.
4. What kind of music do you like?
- As well as Fairport Convention I also like Show of Hands, Ruth Notman, Kris Drever, Martin Simpson as well as anything folky with a strong vocal and nice fiddle playing.
5. What was the last gig/festival/recital/concert that you attended? What was it like?
- Show of Hands in Stroud in April which was fantastic.
6. What was the last CD that you bought? Would you recommend it?
- Life of Lilly by Ruth Notman. Yes it's a great album, but I have to say her previous one 'Threads' is still my favourite.
7. Complete the following sentence:

Hello Ruth! I only recently realised that Roo was short for Ruth. I used to get called Ruthie a lot which I wasn't very keen on, but Roo is rather nice isn't it. |
