Hi folks, Nice to get online here after hearing so much about the forum. Finally persuaded here by two lovely old brummies Mark and Carolyn! When not distracted by my tedious day job as a public sector bureaucrat I'm a freelance writer, having written for Living Tradition and numerous websites! I try to work as independently as possible and would like to think of myself as more of a champion of music than a critic. Here's my blog if you're interested: http://mikewilsonmusicblog.blogspot.com/I've been immersed in traditional music since being in the womb, but music really fell in to place for me when I was a cool teenager harbouring an unnatural obsession with Mary Black... she mentioned a songwriter called Sandy Denny... I've been in love ever since! Looking forward to meeting folks here and hopefully finding a bit of inspiration to overcome the brick wall that my writing's hit this last few weeks! Last CD I bought, which I'm now listening to for the first time, is the Amchitka album (Phil Ochs / James Taylor / Joni Mitchell) and I'm now wondering why I've never bothered to check out Ochs before tonight!! Last gig I was at was Karine Polwart's gig in Runcorn last Thursday!

According to the wotsit at the top of the page I've now been logged on for over two and a half hours, nearly all of that time has been spent reading the twenty pages of this thread! Nice to see a few faces I know already, mostly from the Spiers & Boden board. Right then down to business. 1. Who are you and where are you from?I'm Pete Dunk, born and bred in Leeds (yes I know - another tyke!), now living on the Isle of Oxney on the Kent/East Sussex border. 2. What made you join Talkawhile?Ended up having a look around the forum after following a link from melodeon.net and I'm just amazed that I haven't come across TAW before. Looks like my kind of place so here I am. 3. What do you know of Fairport Convention and/or Cropredy if anything?I go all the way back to Fotheringay and have a couple or three FC albums, a small collection of Sandy Denny stuff and also both of Simon Nicols' solo CDs. Never been to Cropredy I'm afraid but would have had to be an alien not to have heard of it of course. 4. What kind of music do you like?Folk in it's many forms, from the Chieftains to Alistair Anderson and June Tabor to the Watersons, not forgetting Vin Garbutt to Richard Digance or Elisa Carthy to Huw and Tony Williams. Singer songwriters like James Taylor, Ralph McTell, Jim Croce, Harvey Andrews, Leon Rosselson, the list could go on and on. Oyster Band and Billy Bragg should also be included. 5. What was the last gig/festival/recital/concert that you attended? What was it like? Not including folk club nights that would be Eric Bogle with Alistair Anderson as support at Broadstairs festival which was a great evening. 6. What was the last CD that you bought? Would you recommend it?Billy Pigg - The Border Minstrel and I would heartily recommend it if you like the Northumbrian pipes. 7. Complete the following sentence:Tonight, Sir Robert, I am going to be one of my all time favourite singers Ralph McTell and I will sing: Terminus followed by Summer Lightning. Hello all *waves*
