1.   Who are you and where are you from?
Vince O'Loan from Glasgow

2.   What made you join Talkawhile?
I've been aware of Fairports music most of my life unfortunately missing seeing them support tull in the 80s and only recently getting round to seeing them ( see next question)

3.   What do you know of Fairport Convention and/or Cropredy if anything?
I knew of Cropredy for years but life work etc it never quite worked out. Finally decided this was the year and came for the whole 3 days - and whilst it might have been something to do with the beer I don't recall seeing any but happy contented people whilst I was there.  Bonus was being able to bring the dog since he could find his way back to the tent at night.  I already have my tickets for next year!

4.   What kind of music do you like?
Tempted to say anything good - I have classical to electro pop on my mp3.  Been a prog fan since I started buying music, got into bluegrass from seeing chris Thile and the Punch Brothers.  I play classical mandolin ( badly..) and am starting to learn upright bass with ambitions to fake some jazz...

5.   What was the last gig/festival/recital/concert that you attended?  What was it like?
The Darkness in Glasgow -not bad but not great.

6.   What was the last CD that you bought?  Would you recommend it?
Having checked out next years line up I bought a few Gryphon CDs - love Raindance.

7.   Complete the following sentence:
“Tonight, Sir Robert, I am going to be my all time favourite singer ……. (name of singer) and I will
sing:  ' ................................'   (name of song)
John Martyn,     Big Muff

I've been posting a while on here and thought I'd better fill this in so here goes;

1) Who are you and where are you from?
My names John and I'm from a small town called Crowle situated between Scunthorpe and Doncaster

2) What made you join Talkawhile?
Heard it mentioned in a few places and decided to join up

3) What do you know of Fairport Convention and/or Cropredy if anything?
I was aware of Fairport for a few years as my mate was a big fan and he had been to Cropredy a couple of times.
Me and another friend decided to go in 2000 as Robert Plant was on.
Absolutely loved it and we have been to everyone since bar last year due to the lacklustre line up

4) What kind of music do you like?
Pretty much anything from jazz to death metal, krautrock to folk.

5) What was the last gig/festival/recital/concert that you attended? What was it like?
Last gig was Jeff Lynne's ELO at Leeds arena and was pretty much what you'd expect.
Plenty of hits and choice tracks from the new album

6)What was the last CD you bought? Would you recommend it?
The last music I bought was the Record Store Day picture disc version of David Bowies "The Man Who Sold The World" and yes, I would recommend it.
The last cd was a copy of Blue Valentine by Tom Waits to replace my old vinyl copy and again its highly recommended!

7) Complete the following sentence;
"Tonight Sir Robert I'm going to be...... and I will sing..."
Johnny Cash A Boy Named Sue

Hi all,

I'm also new here, looking to make friends and connections around the country/world in folk music mainly. I write and perform my own songs, check me out here: https://soundcloud.com/ryanfoxsongs. My music has been described as contemporary roots folk with a hint of country and Celtic. Influences include Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Dolly Parton and Woody Guthrie plus ye olde Celtic (Irish, Breton) traditional folk melodies. So let's do the quiz:

1) Who are you and where are you from?
My names Peter and I'm from Longfield near Dartford in Kent, UK.

2) What made you join Talkawhile?
To make new friends and connections in folk music throughout the UK and world.

3) What do you know of Fairport Convention and/or Cropredy if anything?
I came to Fairport Convention through the music of Richard Thompson. I know they were the main guys in a folk revival movement here in the good ol UK. I know nothing of Cropedy (I will google it shortly!)

4) What kind of music do you like?
Folk, folk rock, rock, country, traditional folk tunes and songs, Great American Songbook, Britpop

5) What was the last gig/festival/recital/concert that you attended? What was it like?
I saw Noel Gallagher at the O2 last year with my brothers and sister. Champagne Supernova with the full choir was a particular highlight, with Noel giving me a nod of approval when he saw me revelling in the moment.

6)What was the last CD you bought? Would you recommend it?
Bob Dylan Blonde on Blonde. He is the master songwriter and a huge influence on my own music, I don't know where to begin describing what his contributions mean to me. Yes and yes again!!!

7) Complete the following sentence;
"Tonight Sir Robert I'm going to be...... and I will sing..."
Bob Dylan... I Threw It All Away

So I posted a couple of things already, but here goes

1.   Who are you and where are you from?
Drew Wegg, from that London

2.   What made you join Talkawhile?
That Chris Bates said it was a good idea

3.   What do you know of Fairport Convention and/or Cropredy if anything?
Seen the band many times, attended Cropredy from 86 on...

4.   What kind of music do you like?
Folk, rock, folkrock, classical, pop... pretty much anything.  Not keen on rap

5.   What was the last gig/festival/recital/concert that you attended?  What was it like?
Other than Cropredy, Show of Hands at Abbotsbury.  Both were triffic

6.   What was the last CD that you bought?  Would you recommend it?
Like everyone else at Cropredy 16, I bought the Pierce Bros CD.  Amazing.

7.   Complete the following sentence:
“Tonight, Sir Robert, I am going to be my all time favourite singer, Maddy Prior and I will
sing:  Black Jack Davy.   I have to choose Maddy because I saw Steeleye on Crackerjack in 1974(?) and that was my awakening to this wonderful music.  There are many singers that I love, but she was the first.
